Swede thai wife bank lost half a million baht from their bank account

A Thai woman and her Swedish husband went to the authorities after claiming that THB480,000 (about US$14,800) had mysteriously disappeared from their Thai bank account while they've been living in Sweden.

Yesterday, Nontapat Saenontad, 47, and her husband, who was not named, filed a police report with police in rural Chaiyaphum province after the local branch of the bank they had an account with allegedly refused to help them find out about the missing money.

The bank was only identified as a "famous" financial institution in Thailand.

According to Nontapat, the couple has been working in Sweden for the last six to seven years. The account in question was set up to only be used when the pair returned to Thailand for vacation, reported Workpoint.

The couple discovered that nearly all of their money was gone when they checked their account online from Sweden last Monday. Only THB680 (US$20) was still remaining.

Nontapat says that when she called the bank in question and inquired about the missing funds, the bank representative allegedly told her that they must submit a request to the bank in person.

Nontapat told local media that the round-trip plane tickets for both her and her husband cost them another THB120,000 (US$3,700).

Since arriving in Chaiyaphum, the woman said she has followed up with the bank twice, last Tuesday and Sunday, but they have yet to receive any answers or even an indication that any action has been taken.

At press time, the question of where the funds went, how it happened or why still remains unanswered.

Filing a police report appears to have been their last resort.

"We just want the money that disappeared from our account. We chose to deposit with this bank because we believed in their ability to keep our money safe," Nontapat said.

Now, however, she's no longer sure if that trust was well placed.

Anyone who goes to a psychiatrist should have his head examined.
