The Liberal-Democrat Party and its predecessors, the Liberal Party, was for decades so desperate to get into Downing Street, even on the back of a marginal win by any other party, that it long ago abandoned any principles. The few policies it did have were dogmatic rather than practicable and unpopular with voters of both left and right inclination. It is weak, devious and pointless and has produced leaders with similar characteristics.

What happened to Jeremy Thorpe, by the way?

Bugger!
