Drug dealers captured in Khon Kaen

Smugglers have been arrested for dealing in marijuana in the city revealed Police General Pongpats Pongchareon, Secretary-general of Narcotics Control Board, and Mr. Somsak Suwannasutcharit, Governor of Khon Kaen, The police uncovered a plan for shipping a large amount of marijuana to Australia and as a result decided to act swiftly before the dealers left Thailand.

Police Major General Permsak Paradornsak, Director of Khon Kaen Police, said that the drugs had a street value in Australia of more than ฿500 million baht (A$1.6 million). “They are professionals,” stated Police Major General Permsak, “They usually transport drugs on boats which is one of the most difficult ways for officers to control.”

The arrested men, all foreigners, confessed that they had brought drugs from Laos to distribute to their dealers both inside and outside the country.

The governor was extremely pleased with the success of this operation, but he admitted that this problem continues to need a high priority as it can badly harm the reputation of the province.
