Passenger traffic sky high

Thailand's six main airports kicked off the New Year with passenger traffic continuing on an upward trajectory of robust growth.

Combined passenger traffic surged 14.7% in January year on year to 10.9 million, while aircraft movements soared 10.1% to 67,690, according to Airport of Thailand Plc (AoT) statistics.

The record passenger numbers in January show that the growth trend from last year has continued into 2016.

The figures further indicate that AoT-operated airports, including the gateway Suvarnabhumi and low-cost carrier hub Don Mueang, are on course to surpass the conservative 120-million-passenger mark projected for this year.
