Almost 6,000 vehicles impounded during Songkran holidays

Nearly 6,000 vehicles have been impounded by authorities after drivers were found drunk driving. The figure covers the period since the beginning of the Songkran holidays.

According to the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) Deputy Spokesperson Colonel Sirichan Ngathong, traffic authorities worked around the clock over the weekend to relieve traffic gridlocks and prevent accidents as holidaymakers continued returning to Bangkok.

Road regulations had been breached at least 200,000 times over the holiday period. More than 100,000 drivers were prosecuted as a result.

Out of 5,772 vehicles impounded, 4, 353 are motorcycles and the rest are cars. The NCPO has encouraged those who are still making their way back to work to be mindful of conditions on the road.
