TAT starts campaign for villages

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is shaping 10 communities into role models to promote village tourism and generate income for local people.

The agency yesterday kicked off its "Village to the World" campaign in collaboration with Local Alike, a social enterprise focused on sustainable tourism, to instruct leaders and representatives from 10 selected communities.

The communities have high tourism potential and have already obtained tourism awards from the TAT.

TAT governor Yuthasak Supasorn said the 10 communities will find their own tourism uniqueness to set themselves apart.

The agency and Local Alike will help the communities improve tourism services and local product quality. They will also assist people in selling and promoting their products.

"By doing so, communities will be able to have tourism products that can attract tourists," Mr Yuthasak said. "It's good for Thailand to have new tourism products and destinations, while communities will generate more income from tourism."
