Korat Swatcats - new season starts.
« on: February 21, 2014, 07:10:01 PM »
The new Yamaha 1 season starts tomorrow and the Swatcats are playing Bangkok FC at the Kings Stadium K.O. 6.30 pm
With new signings aplenty, there should be a push for promotion to the Thai Premier League !
Beautiful stadium, good football, worth a try.

Not my mistake but ..............
Arrived with a 3 line whip on 2 friends and there was no game. Ooops
Looking at it positively, if you couldn't make it today - now you can !!!
TOMORROW that is. 6.30 pm
We had a nice time though.

Well thanks for that Thaiga - good fun. I was waving them a bit later though - a competent 1 - 0 win.
The video is good but a bit misleading - by 7pm I would think the crowd was about 12,000 - 14,000 to rank in the biggest 3 in Thailand tonight - including the Premier. The crowd was impressive and I think the video was done before the game began.
More interestingly, we bumped into a German journalist - there was a Red-shirt convention with about 3000 folks 200m away. He has been in Thailand for 8 years and recently been beaten up and lying in BKK under passing bullets. He had a disturbing view of the next weeks but thought the Army will move in when the situation gets worse. Nice Guy - very worried though.
BUT a great game and for the Swatcats - onwards and upwards......     ?

That was an old vid roger 2009 i think - i thought it was lively.

As for the other affair i found a vid on the trat disater but it was too disturbing to post - the deaths of a woman, a five-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy. They were waiting for noodles at a stall i believe, when gunned down.

2009 that explains it............ I started going in 2010 when the crowd was around 2000.
The whole thing is a bit more lively now - the drum section is quite a sight (and sound) and last night I'd guess the crowd was around 13,000.
Amazingly while injuries were sorted out during the game last night, there was a small remote control hovercopter - no doubt with a camera on board - circling around the crowd so if that video ends up on youtube you may see me waving my undies LOL
Very disturbing stuff from Trat ...

Roger, after checking their website, it looks like the next home match is on March 16 against Chiang Mai.

Should tickets be purchased in advance? If so, where and when does/should one purchase tickets?
I suspect that there are different seating prices - if so where would you recommend to best see and enjoy the game?
Any other tips?

Thanks.

Hello Al. It's very easy to buy a ticket just as you arrive - B100. You'll see the 'box offices' at the left of the entrance to the main grandstand.
No queue at all usually. Capacity is 27,000 !
The main Grandstand is the place to be - out of the sun and out of the rain when it comes. But, inside you need to move about 25 metres to the right before you ascend (and find a seat lower or higher to suit) - otherwise you will be too close to the drum section !
Parking - I try to arrive 45 mins before KO - as you turn into the road to the Stadium - take the second left, down and around and park pointing the right way outwards as it gets hectic at Full Time - (gives time for a Cola and a bite before).
I might just might go up to Khon Kaen for my first away game this Sunday - to my shame I've never been to KK at all.
I'll look out for you on 16th - outside the main entrance. ATB.

And the Swatcats win at Kanchanaburi in the FA Cup 1st round. Fielding only 3 first teamers they were 2-0 down with ten men but came back to win 2-3 in the 8th minute of injury time. Video on clubwebsite.co.uk/koratfc
Away to Khon Kaen next week .........

Swat Cats win at Khon Kaen 0-1 making that 3 out of 3 including a win in the Cup.
Early days - but a few more good results and they'll be looking like genuine promotion candidates.
clubwebsite.co.uk/koratfc is the English language website but the updating is a bit slow these days as Paul is in the UK doing an MA I believe.
There should be some highlights in a day or so.
Next game is Chiang Mai at home, next Sunday 16th at 6.30 pm.
(Double check ko time before you leave home.).
Entry B100 in the Main Stand.

The Swatcats go for a 3rd successive Yamaha league 1 victory against the mighty Chiang Mai on Sunday at the King's stadium. K O 6.30 pm
You'll see a 5'9" white haired falang around the main entrance around 6pm (me) so if anyone needs any help, see you then.
Well worth a watch and a great atmosphere - usually one of the highest crowds in all Thailand.
Look at clubwebsite.co.uk/koratfc for more.

Chiang Mai game - a poor first half spoilt by the Referee awarding silly free kicks, mainly to Chiang Mai well in sight of Swatcat's goal and with the Swatcats having a man sent off - 3rd time in 4 games this season. Great effort in the 2nd half, fighting back from 0-1 and 1-2 to stay equal top of the table. Crowd looked 15,000 ish but a lower figure may be reported. Anyone go ?

I was there Roger, and enjoyed myself very much.  The crowd was very enthusiastic and I was definitely in a minority with no Swat Cat shirt.

I waited around the entrance for a while in the hope of meeting you but we must have missed each other.

Next time I will park a bit farther out instead of so close to the stadium - tough traffic jam afterwards.

That's great Al - glad you enjoyed it. I arrived a bit late because of the traffic - bigger crowd than I expected. I always park as close to the exit as possible and walk when the board goes up for added time. So many m'bikes flying around it makes sense for me. Catch you next time maybe.
(Nakhom Pathom 26th 7pm and Phitsanulok 30th).

After winning 0-1 at Trat, the Swatcats now top the Yamaha League 1 table. One of two other teams can join them there tonight with a win.
But with 3 wins and a draw - that's a good start ! Without ever looking really convincing.
On WEDNESDAY night at 7 pm - Swatcats v Nakhon Pathom - a win and they'll be looking good.
Worth a watch.

There's a Cup game at home this Wednesday.
The next home league game is Saturday 19th KO 6.30pm

Watched by the largest crowd in all Thailand this weekend, nearly 14,000, the Swatcats get their third home draw of the season, 1-1, Korat's goal scored by evergreen hero and goal ace, Prompong. Just one point off the top of the table where Ang Thong sit, one point clear after their promotion from the regional Leagues last year and formation in just 2010 !
Next game is Wednesday 7 pm, FA Cup v Seeker FC.

Having knocked high-flying Premier League side, Singhtarua out of the FA Cup on Tuesday, the Swatcats, in second place, now take on Phuket, in third place, at the King's Stadium tonight, K.O. 6.30 pm
I'm guessing there will be a big crowd and a great atmosphere for this game - plenty of room to park and in the Stadium, but it's worth arriving a bit early. Good luck Swatcats !  :cheers

Swatcats unbeaten this season but second in the table to the remarkable Ang Thong.

Due to a floodlight tower falling down at Ayutthaya this week, (causing other damage too), tonight's fixture is unexpectedly, to be played at HOME. At the King's Stadium, Kick Off 6.30 - you can cheer the Swatcats' to the TOP of the table tonight...........

The Swatcats win 3-0 to go clear at the top of the table. An excellent performance against a strong side - scored in the first minute and the 3rd goal was a beauty. Playing with great confidence and skills now, this side can get promoted to the Thai Premier this year.
Worth a watch - for highlights in a day or so - clubwebsite.co.uk/koratfc

In a clash with second placed Ang Thong last night, the Swatcats triumphed 2-1 to go 6 points clear at the top !
Promotion to the Thai Premier next season begins to look more than probable ............
AND I noticed on 'whatsonkorat.com' that B100million is going to be spent on the already superb King's Stadium - a larger pitch, more capacity, improved seating, 17 metre LED scoreboard etc. Preparation for the 'Thailand National Games' in December this year.

HELP ! The excellent 'clubwebsite.co.uk/koratfc' has been run by PH since 2008 - he is currently studying in the UK - due to workloads, he is no longer able to maintain the site. Is ANYONE, football supporter or not, willing to keep the site updated, (with next game, match scores and scorers, crowd, table etc) pending the eventual return, hopefully, of PH ? The site is very easy to use apparently - (I'd honestly do it myself but can't give continuity). ANYONE willing to do 15 minutes a week or less, please send a message and I will give you the email address for PH !

Come on you Swatcats !

Double good news !!
The Swatcats are still TOP of the Table, 5 points clear, after a tough and well deserved away draw at Bangkok FC. AND !
clubwebsite.co.uk/koratfc is back, up and running, and has some good highlights of yesterday's game.
Crowds are regularly over 15,000 - the best in Thailand. Our Correspondent is talking confidently, that the Swatcats can win the Thai Premier in the next three seasons - promotion is firmly expected now.
And, Lee Tuck has just been signed from a Premier side.
Good luck Swatcats !

the Swat Cats are turning even more British with the arrival of a Turkish kebab van selling wonderful chicken kebabs outside the stadium at home games. A kebab will set you back 50 Baht.  yummy! yummy!

After a good win against old rivals Roiet Utd, the Swatcats are 8 points clear at the top with others to play today.
Being knocked out of the FA and FL cups at semi-final stage shows that Premier League next season will be a big challenge but supported by crowds of 20,000 or more now, by far the largest crowds in Thailand, the 'force' is with us.
Clubwebsite.co.uk/koratfc is up and running with video highlights and better than ever.
See you there !
