She now looks to be safe for the moment.  Her biggest crime was to renounce Islam (Apostasy).  Regardless of any punishment her family were thinking of planning, Apostasy is punishable by death.  Islam is like the Hotel California...you can check in but you can never leave.  She was lucky not to have been flown off to Kuwait this morning as she would have found herself meeting the swordsman in Chop-Chop Square.  All credit to the girl, she has exploited the media very efficiently and undoubtedly saved her life in the process.  Let’s hope for a happy resolution in the next few days.

I read in the news that the flight left without her, because she had locked herself in the hotel room. So not over yet. But she contacted lots of embassies in Bangkok and requested asylum. It's in the hands of politicians and desk watchers now!

She is in the care of UNHR now, but her father, who is a high government official in Saudi-Arabia, has arrived in Thailand and poses a threat. Nobody can tell what he's gonna do, what he might be able to do. After all this is Thailand.

I don't think the father can do much.  He is only a provincial official.  The Thais can say to him that it is out of Thai hands and is now the responsibility of UNHCR.  Also, the world is still watching carefully, particularly in the wake of the Khashoggi episode.  I hope the young lady will be on her way to Australia early next week.

No, she's on the way to Canada right now, where they offered her asylum.

Safely in Toronto. Good to see her smiling.  It might be a shock for her when she steps outside the airport as it is around -6C.

The German newspaper ZEIT wrote on its site, that not only her passport was taken away from her in Bangkok, but also that Australia had canceled her visa. Looks like there are still a lot of questions to answer by the Thais and the Australians!

TT and Johnnie. Rahaf al-Qunun. 40 seconds into the BBC's 'From Our Own Correspondent', a very interesting report from Johnathan Head about just how the Tweets and The Media helped her defy the Saudi and Thai authorities . . . Good luck to her in Canada and to the tens of thousands of young Saudi women who might feel the same.

OK Roger, Yes she did brilliant job.  I hope all the publicity helps to drive reform in Saudi Arabia although I somehow doubt it.  It would be much better if children did not feel the need to flee their own country.  I think she will be much better in Canada than Australia.  The Australian view of sophisticated sexual foreplay: “Brace yerself Sheila.” Could have been the case of out of the Saudi frying pan and into the fire.

This young lady, Latifa, was not nearly so lucky.  But then, her dad is the ruler of the U.A.E.  Pity she did not pick up some twitter skills.
