What's happening to thailand, "THE LAND OF SMILES"  Shooting people over a parking space, Three dead, sure is a shame.
An angry man last night shot dead three neighbours after a scramble for parking ended in a tragic incident.

Three died in parking area dispute

Before the shooting the gunman drove his Toyota van to park in front of the barber shop which is next to his house.

He then had a heated argument over the parking area in front of his house. Mr M came out of the shop in bid to calm down the quarrel.

But the angry driver instead, drew out a 9 mm pistol, fired shots at ......

This type of parking dispute is a real problem, even in Korat.  I don't get out much, but from time to time I may venture into one of the local venues here.  On several occasions I've been asked to move my car because it is parked in front of some Thai's Chop-Shop.  it really pisses me off because these folks seem to think they own the public road in front of their shop.  They Don't!  Fu*ck-um. It's public parking and anyone can park there.

Just a few weeks ago I got into a heated argument with a noodle vendor and her boyfriend near a certain place I like to go.  The girl tells the waitress to tell me to move my car. Here's the kicker.  This noodle vendor is one who just sets up her own spot on the sidewalk, rent free, to sell monkey ball soup.  No Chop-Shop or residence, just a sidewalk vendor.  I guess she figured my car was obstructing the view of her business.  I basically told her this is public parking and anyone can park here and to go F*ck herself.

Some of these folks will put a metal ramp in front.  They seem to think that this too entitles them to owning the entire road in front of their shop.

Hey Rambo - I've come across this problem myself. But after 5 years in Nigeria and 6 years in Thailand my response would be more circumspect. And a bit more understanding maybe . . .
These Gals/Guys are just trying to eke out their own living, pay school costs etc. like everyone else.
It's infuriating I know. But as a 'Guest' in someone else's Country, I suggest it's best not to pick fights too lightly.
Your speaking Thai fluently does allow you to have your say - I just think it's best to be a bit more helpful.
Sorry for the point but it would be boring if we all agreed all of the time...............

DON'T SAY NOTHING

On my way into town this morning, three near misses all by drivers cutting in front of me as i do not tailgate, each time i had to drop back a little to leave a safe space to the car in front. Each time mrs.T yelled don't say nothing if he have gun he might kill you.
Is this how the thai people are begining to think now.

Give the pavement back to the people

Yes roger these people have got to earn a living, but pushing you into the road to get by, Hmmm!

Hi Thaiga. I was commenting on BF's parking story.
Seems you had a bad drive into the City. Sorry about that.
I'm given the 'might have a gun' stuff but I still toot sometimes !
I'm not advising 'say nothing' or 'do nothing' come to that.
Gotta judge it as it happens I guess.
