Monks caught using drugs in temple
« on: May 01, 2013, 07:18:10 PM »
Three Buddhist monks were caught using illegal drugs with a group of youths in a temple in Sukhothai province, police said on Wednesday.

Pol Sub-Lt Watchara Srisaket, of Sukhothai police, said the three accused men are Chalor Chandsri, 42, Thirayuth Eiamjui, 28, and Sakkarin Janthongkam.

Police acted on a tip off that some monks and some youths were doing drugs at Wat Khlong Yang in Sukhothai's Sawankhalok district.

They raided the temple on Tuesday night. Urine samples were taken from the three monks and they tested positive.

Mr Chalor told police that he entered monkhood for six months,  while the other two were ordained during the Songkran holiday.

Mr Chalor said he was addicted to methamphetamine pills, and he had hired local youths to buy the pills for him from a drug dealer.

The three suspects have left the monkhood and are under police detention.
