Another airport cab con

FROM bangkokpost postbag

Just when you thought that the airport taxi scams were cleaned up, up pops a new one. I arrived from Hong Kong two nights ago and went to the public taxi stand which we are all led to believe is nice and safe and not controlled by mafia gangs.

On getting my ticket to Asok, I was greeted by a grunt of ''you go Pattaya''. When I said no and the lady said Asok my nightmare began.

The cabbie asked for 1,000 baht to which he got a stern no. Then at the toll he asked me for toll money, which I agree is the norm. But I only had 1,000 baht for which he refused to return my change. After arguing for a long time he insisted we go to the police station stating I had refused to pay.

After a heated argument, we both agreed on one thing.

I was conned and nothing I say or do will change that fact.

I have his details, registration, everything, but I'm not going to even bother. I have, like many others, had enough of Thai corruption which is now aimed at foreigners who have money.

Foreigners of all sorts, expats and tourists, beware as it's only going to get worse.
