Two Year Expat Work Permits May Become Universal With Thai Cabinet's Approval

PHUKET: Thailand's Cabinet may consider extending all one-year work permits but two-year permits were already in place in some industries, a Phuket Labor Office spokesperson said today.

The government is reported to be considering asking Cabinet to extend all one-year work permits to two years to encourage foreign investment.

''Resorts pay taxes every two years so they already operate on two-year work permits,'' the officials said on Phuket. ''Most resort workers are already on two-year work permits.''

Tour businesses already operated on two-year work permits and so did companies with Board of Investment backing.

Thailand's Cabinet is expected to consider making two-year work permits universal as early as tomorrow's Cabinet meeting.
