Pink Thai ID Card for foreigners available
« on: July 26, 2017, 02:16:02 PM »
Some weeks ago I started to apply for yellow house book and ID card at the council offices in the centre of Korat. We visited the other day to collect the docs but were directed to a new office located in Klang Villa on the road out to Khon Kaen.  The office is located on the second floor above the Klang supermarket.  The staff were very helpful and soon issued the docs.  Apparently I was the very first farang customer so there was a photo session with the manager and staff!

WOT! no pics  :)  Tor. Ror 13

Does anybody know what the advantage is to having a Tabien Baan house book apart from it proves a persons place of legal residence - just asking

What do you mean ID card

Pink Thai ID Card for foreigners available

The benefits of such a card are as yet unknown

Earlier this year the Thai government issued new regulations to allow for a pink Thai ID card for foreigners residing in Thailand. To apply you must have a Yellow House Registration book or Tabien Ban and your passport. If you are married to a Thai national then also a copy of the marriage certificate, also copies of birth certificates of any children you may have and a work permit if you have one. Regulations require a Thai witness with an ID Card to affirm your status at the District Office when you apply. The Pink ID Card costs 60 baht and can take anywhere from one day to 30 days depending on the District Office. The benefits of such a card are as yet unknown since it is so new but it may allow Thai prices at National Parks and may possibly be used as ID instead of carrying your passport but it is not yet certain.

Well they kept that quite and according to konradlegal.com. You won't have to take your passport with you when going out & about the card will be sufficient, they are written in Thai only and valid for ten years

Hey TT,

A very timely post from you as I too am about to embark on this process.

It would be very good to have you post up to date detail of what papers \ paperwork you were required to submit?

Does this new office now take you initial application too?

I have a Pink ID card. It is of no use whatsoever. I could not even buy a contract for a phone with it using as ID. But i could with my Thai driving license.

You need a Yellow Tabien Baan book before you can apply for it. Your TM 30 must be upto date and your Puyai Baan must go to the Amphur with you to vouch for you. All the effort and has no use at all. Well no more than your Thai Driving license.

Well i think it's a step in the right direction for us expats - if only used for id purposes - better than carrying your passport with you. Wonder what else we can do with the pinkie  ;)

N.A.B. sorry I cannot remember first submission but I think it was marriage certificate and blue book. The people at Klang Villa are helpful and can advise.  I used my pinkie at hotel check in in Bangkok the other day with no question so saves carrying passport around.  Good luck. TT

Well buffy you need your yellow book first and as you know The application procedure will be applied or interpreted differently from Amphur to Amphur. So pop in to see them ask what they require of you, Bit of a drawn out procedure according to xpat.life as they write to the immigration  for confirmation of your existence and so on

Have a read, link above ...

Back to the pinkie which you have to jump through a few hoops to obtain and get the yellow book first

I went to my local amphur today to enquire, what do i need. The guy there showed me someone else's application and said i need a laplong from immi, the letter of guarantee, don't forget to take a photo with you when applying. The other paperwork was

Passport + a copy of everything in your passport
Marriage certificate original + copy
wife house book + copy
wife id card +copy

The whole process for the yellow book he said would be about a month. I wont be applying just yet for a while, if anyone else does, give us an update and verify that is correct

YELLOW TABIAN BAAN - STEP 1 ( in Central Korat )
« Reply #17 on: August 02, 2017, 04:36:21 PM »
OK so today the wife and I visited the Amphur in Muang Korat ( city centre )

We were spoken to by a very informative lady who explained the whole process to us and the associated costs.

The form is attached ( shown ) below F.Y.I

At the end of about 30 minutes, she explained it would be NO problem me being issued with the Yellow Tabian Bann and following that the Pink Thai ID Card.

The usual paperwork required  >  Copy Passport \ Thai ID Card \ Wife's Tabian Baan \  Thai Marry Paper

Paperwork with costs involved:

>  Translation of Farang Passport into Thai = 500 Baht ( they will do at Amphur - might as well let them do the job then they will have nothing to complain about! )

>   Letter ( Bai Lap Long! )  from Korat Immigration = 500 Baht - Which stays valid for 30 days

We will start the process in December - Expected to take 1 month.

Any one that's interested, I will keep you all posted!!!

The form is in Thai - Of course your Wife will translate for you :)

Very good, nab.  I understand that the pinkie gives you access to museums etc at Thai rates without the farang markup.  What I am now wondering is if we are eligible for free SRT train journeys to BKK as per the Thais. I will put it to the test on my next visit.  I think part of the problem will be that the pinkies are as unfamiliar to the Thais are they are to the farangs.

I wonder, any real advantages with the pinkie as the card clearly states, not valid outside the area of issue
and it prominently states this is not an identity card ... so i have read ... Is that correct.

Your blood type is written on the reverse side at the bottom left. Your fingerprints are also taken. Handy internal flights, check in id at hotels, at the bank instead of your passport. The beauty it's all in thai and can be understood everywhere you go to.

My wife looked at it carefully and said it's pretty much useless.  Doesn't grant you any privileges.  Have you ever been asked if you have a pink farang card?  They will ask for a Tambian Ban, which imo holds more weight than the pink farang card.

On the Tambian Ban.  I got mine in under a week and went down to the main office on a Saturday when they were closed to the public to pick it up. it can be a lengthy process for some and it's not as easy to get as it was in the past. Having a Tambian Ban opens some doors for you here, much more than the pink farang card.

yes b-f pretty much useless, but it does give them more info on you than they already have.

i hear this pink thing ;D has been around for a couple of years, the idea of it was originally for some info on the migrant workers not really meant for expats, retirees.

but some cheap charlies might think they can save a few bht on the bts ect. ect. embarrassing their families in the bargain  :-[

the yellow book yes as it states your residence.

I didn't have to bring anyone.  Typically, you have to bring the Poo Yai Ban and a neighbor.  Something like that....or you could just.....er....you know.  ;D

When i enquired they never mentioned bring along a witness - could be because i was married at the same amphur, so they have had all the info from the embassy, but they still wanted the guarantee from immig.
