There's an Immigration Office near Dan Kwean, the pottery village, on the edge of Korat. As far as I know, they don't take bribes and don't ask for them, although a few seedy farang used to boast that they slipped a certain officer, long gone, bottles of whisky from time to time. The Immigration officers are very fair and helpful so quite why anyone would feel the need to bribe them, I don't know.

If you anticipate visa problems, I hear that there are agencies in Pattaya who will help.

Are you single or hitched? If the latter, where is your lady's home town?

If you come here for the loose women you will also need access to a good clinic.

Don't live in the city of Korat unless it's way out in one of the suburbs.  City life sucks...congested traffic, tuk-tuks every where, speeding motorcycles and crazy car drivers.  Also, there really isn't much to do in Korat IMO in the way of activities.

Personally, I would check out Khon Kaen.  It completely blows away Korat in Everything...Malls, nightlife, hotels, schools, universities. etc.  It has really blossomed in the past five years.  There is a small, but modern airport there so traveling around Thailand is much easier.  Khon Kaen has everything and more!

I know some Koratians may not like what I just said, but it's true.  Go check it out. You can take a flight to BBK then onto Khon Kaen...easy.
