1yr retirement ext.prepare for a wait
« on: November 19, 2014, 02:35:34 PM »
Here's how my day or should i say 2 days unfolded at d/k.

Yesterday arrived at 10.40.ticket machine was off, lady at reception desk checked i had the right documents and handed me a number and said come back at 1 pm.

I arrived back at 12.30 and they had closed for lunch.I sat and waited till they came back, my number was called around 1.30 pm.

I've never had such a thorough check of documentation like this at immig in all the years i have been in thailand.

Top right hand of the form it asked where you filled in the form i put KORAT as usual, No it should be Nakhon Ratchasima he said, hard word for me to spell i said Jokingly as he tippexed it out and changed it.
Further down the form it say's PORT OF ARRIVAL i put bkk airport as usual, he said there are two airports in bangkok, i said smiling suvarnabhumi airport, but another hard word for me to spell, out come the tippex with a growl.
Then mrs.t said to break the ice. each mistake i make i should pay 50 bht, The 100 was slid into the drawer and a smile arose.

Then another 2 forms to fill in, in thai + 1 for mrs.t.

Then he said the boss is not here to sign the p/p so leave your passport and come back tomorrow to collect it.

Today got there at 9.30 waited only 1 hr. All ok done the 90 day also. smiles all round. total mileage 320 kilometers.

I noticed the people applying today were told to come back to pick up there passports in the afternoon.

Well it's only once a year - Good luck.

Frustrating Thaiga - I think they always close at 12 -1pm for lunch so if you arrive 10.40am you'll be caught up in that wait. The Korat/BKK quibbles - surely a joke.
Having to come back the next day if the Boss ain't there - dodgy as it's a regional office.
Yes it is a very detailed process and I am always impressed by the number of rubber stamps involved !
I'm fortunate to live close by so it's no hassle for me.

The difference between Non-Immigrant "O" and "OA" is, that OA is only issued outside of Thailand, usually by a consulate in the home country. The"A" in "OA" stands for "APPROVED", that means the first one year extension has already been approved by the issuing consulate.

Converting O to OA is therefore not possible. Once you got an "O"-type you'll have to seek extension-of-stay at the immigration in Thailand. If you want to stay longer than one year you'll have to get the OA extended the same as the O.
Fun is the one thing that money can't buy

Where I live in Korat about 6 weeks ago there were 4 Immigration pick ups parked here every night, I think about 8 Immigration were staying here, they had been sent down from BKK no doubt to sort something out.
