Welcome Scouser. I'm glad you have no interest in football. Too many conversations over here are ruined by it.

What's the story about hanger on Richard Starkey and your uncle?

starkey was the only real working class lad in the beatles, he lived in the dingle as did my family, he was always a bit of a lad, at school he had a few rackets , one was waiting by the local sweet shop with his crew and extorting money/sweets from the kids before and after school (remember this is in late 40s) one of his many victims was my uncle, when as i was growing up and if i mentioned or ringo was on tv my uncles blood would boil as he was transported back to his childhood and his traumatic experiances  :lol

I can still remember my grandpa, the baker's, allergic reactions, when they played "Sie liebt dich" on the radio. But his reason for contempt was their hairstyle (He had no telly then, had seen pics of them in the newspaper) and the words "yeah, yeah, yeah" in the lyrics. Of course he didn't like the rhythm of the song and the instruments used, especially the electric guitars, either.  ;D

I remember a Liverpudlian back in the '60s telling me about some of the tricks that Lennon played. He, for example, would call a random number from a 'phone box and, if a woman answered, told her that she had one a big prize such as a washing machine and she should stay at home for a few days to await delivery.
