Well as most can see I am a new member on this forum.

I am in the middle of moving to Korat from the Rayong area, the reason is that the pollution coming from the Mattaputt area is killing me. I didn't realize this until I spent a few days in Korat last January and I noticed a big difference in my breathing etc. Since then I have spoken to two local Doctors who have confirmed my thoughts about the pollution in the Rayong area but here is a surprise that the Government is covering it up again, last week another gas leak of Ammonia but nothing in the news about it. It really is a shame because other than that its a good location (pic taken from my balcony) I drink my coffee every morning with this view. When I moved here 2 1/2 years ago I thought this will do me for my retirement but not to be.

As Mrs KK comes from Korat she can return to her old job teaching which will get her out of my hair for a few hours every day. :evilgrin

I'm not new to SE Asia as I have been living & working in different parts since 1981, mainly Philippines, Cambodia and Thailand.

Im looking forward to my new move but I will have to ask some questions on this forum about where to buy this & that, good eating houses etc etc after all that's what forums are about. If I can help anyone with info about places in SE Asia please let me know although some of my info will be out dated, its 12 years since I lived in the Philippines and I haven't lived in Pattaya since 1992, so I cant answer any Q about where such and such bar is because it has changed a lot since then.

Cheers :wai

Welcome to the forum, KK.  I've been to Rayong and I couldn't agree with you more.  I wasn't that impressed with the pollution either.  Looks like you have a nice view there from your balcony.

Many of the forum members here have been in Thailand / Korat for many years and can help assist you in just about anything you need.  If we don't know, we'll try to direct you into the direction where you will find the answers you need.

Korat is a nice place, but you can get bored here if you don't pick up some sort of hobby or activity.  There are many good places to eat and some pretty good farang hang-outs and venues.  A relatively new site has emerged and has some really excellent information about Korat, places to go, eat, etc.  Check it out.  Hope admin doesn't mind me posting a link.  Perhaps the admin could add a few more useful links for us as well.  :)

Welcome to the forum from me, too, KK.

 :cheers

P.S. There are a couple of sites about Korat and life here maintained by farangs, or sites in English maintained by Thais. You can find an overview there

Hi KK welcome.  Sorry to hear you were driven from your nice home by industrial gases.  No such problems here in Korat apart from the road down to Immigration in Dan Kwian.  There is a potato processing plant at the side of the road where the stink is terrible.
If the old only could, if the young only knew.
