Hello guys

Thought it was time to click that register button and join up , me well ive been in Thailand on and off over the past ten years , like many guys I originally came on holiday and eventually ended up getting married and living here . Ive lived in several parts of Thailand , but now reside about 70km out side of Korat city with my Thai wife and teenage step daughter.

Interests include gardening when its not too hot , computers, mobile phones , tablets ,electronic gadgets and photography . I'm soon to become an official 65 year old pensioner , which I'm not looking forward to  :(

Regards , Bill

Hi Bill, welcome to the forum!

What is it you're not looking forward to? Crossing that age line at 65 or receiving a pension?

 :cheers

Thanks guys for the welcome  :cheers

In the past few years ive never really considered my self as a pensioner , just some one who's starting to look his age with more wrinkled skin and brown spots on my hands and a greater desire for a good steak & chips  rather than bedroom frolicking , and as the time for me to apply for my official state pension fast approaches ,its starting to  make me more aware of my age.   :(

I wonder if I'm the oldest person here  :uhm

Welcome Bill, no, you are not the eldest here. I am 66 and I am sure some are older than me. Enjoy the pension. I am still working but that is another story.

He's actually a farang dude who sometimes is able to convince people he's Thai, but only on the forums.  I think he's originally from the U.K.

Wild Bill, here's a picture of uncle Somchai all painted up to look like a Thai.  He was once a member of this forum until he passed and resurrected again recently.

Hi Bill, did we manage to cure your hiccup already? If not, there are some remedies:

Your diaphragm is a muscle that helps with inhaling and exhaling. Hiccups happen when your diaphragm suddenly contracts, followed by the shutting of your vocal cords. Air gets trapped in your throat and you hiccup. No one fully understands what causes hiccups, although some triggers have been identified. For short-term hiccups, time usually causes hiccups to stop on their own. A number of home remedies that increase the amount of carbon dioxide in your blood are considered reliable, too. For example, some people hold their breath for 10 seconds; some breathe into a paper bag for a little while; some eat a teaspoon of sugar; some drink a cold glass of water quickly; and some like to get scared since the fright-induced gasp forces them to take in a lot of air at once.

For hiccups that last longer than 48 hours, intervention is often necessary. First, the doctor has to figure out what's causing the hiccups. If you're ill, getting rid of the sickness might also get rid of the hiccups. Otherwise, some drugs are used to treat chronic hiccups, including an antipsychotic called chlorpromazine, an anti-nausea medication called metoclopramide and a muscle relaxer called baclofen.

In some extreme cases, surgical procedures can become necessary. If your hiccups are caused by a distended stomach, doctors can insert a thin tube down your nose into your stomach, called a nasogastric tube, which may get rid of hiccups. Another option is to inject an anesthetic into your body to block your phrenic nerve, which is related to hiccups. Plus, there's a procedure called vagus nerve stimulation; in this operation, a device is implanted in your chest that electrically stimulates your vagus nerve to stop hiccups. (Source)
