A STRANGER has come to the rescue of a woman who was kidnapped and held in a cage for nearly two months with hardly any food or water.

Missing Mother Freed After Being Found Locked In Cage Wearing Dog Collar

Joelle Lockwood, 30, went missing on July 9 this year, after she was captured by Ricky House Jr, 37, and Kendra Tooley, 44, of Evansville in Indiana.

Lockwood, a mother of two, was lured to their mobile trailer home after he saw her walking in the street. He gave her a lift in his car. She was later allegedly gagged with chloroform, stripped of her clothes, and locked in a wooden cage, reports.

Lockwood was recently rescued by Ronald Higgs, Tooley’s ex-husband, who was invited to the trailer one night.

Higgs has alleged that Tooley first told him of Lockwood’s presence in the trailer when he spoke with her inside.

“She (Tooley) slid over on the couch beside me and said: “I’ve got a girl back here in a cage.”

Higgs then replied: “you got a girl back here in a cage? What are you talking about.”

He saw her inside the cage, which was less than a metre tall. She was only wearing a T-shirt and dog collar as she was hidden from plain sight, reports.

“No food, no water, nowhere to use the bathroom,” Higgs recalled.

She was only given food or water if her captors had left overs from their meals.

Higgs said Lockwood pleaded him to help her out of the cage on Friday night last week.

“She says ‘please don’t leave here without me.’

Higgs said: “What’s the matter?”

She replied: “I’ve been here for over 60 days and they put me in that cage.’”

Higgs then took the responsibility of setting her free into his own hands.

“I didn’t really know what I could do because I’m nowhere near the man I used to be, but I’m not leaving this house without her. I don’t care what I have to do. She’s coming home. She told me Ricky was raping her...Kendra can’t have more children and Ricky doesn’t have any children of his own.”

After he tried to buy her from Tooley and House, Higgs said he discovered the reason for Lockwood’s kidnapping.

Mr Higgs alleged: “The whole time during it all they was talking about a baby. ‘She’s not leaving here until she has the baby. I’m not selling her, you’re not taking her, you’re not doing nothing.’”

When he finally used force to get her out, House threatened him with a shotgun.

Higgs and House then fought, and Higgs fended him off as Lockwood was beaten by Tooley.

Posey County Sheriff Greg Oeth said Higgs eventually freed her, took her back to Evansville where he rang police and she was later reunited with her mother, Candace.

Officers from the Posey County Sheriff’s Office and the Evansville Police SWAT team then arrested House and Tooley who now face 24 charges including rape and criminal confinement.

It is understood Lockwood knew her captors from school and police say the motive for her kidnapping has like “more of a sexual motive” The Indy Star reports.
