Johnnie - absolutely appalling.
As is - the fact that if I talk to my USA friends about this, (and them I greatly respect), any thought of the USA modifying the Gun Laws would be laughed out of Court !

....and back ground checks for mental illness don't do sh*t because the person may appear to be normal on the outside.  Then, all of a sudden they snap and go cuckoo.  Ever notice when people talk about the neighbor who went nuts and shot up xxx people?  They typically say, "Oh he was a nice man and always polite, never bothered anyone, and got along with every one."

Hey BF that may be so.
I was thinking more about much tougher restrictions on the availability of weaponry for a start.
Present Company Accepted, there does always seems to be a knee jerk reaction to any thought of doing anything that might change the situation .............

Oregon shooting: Gunman dead after college rampage

Ten people were killed when a gunman opened fire at Oregon's Umpqua Community College on Thursday, forcing the nation to face yet another mass shooting.

Seven other people were injured, and the shooter is dead, Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin told reporters.

When there are no Americans left standing, they may consider a change.
I suspect you have to American to 'understand' this craziness !
The USA needs gun control. End of !
Just heard poor old Obama speaking in despair about it.

I suspect you have to BE an American to 'understand' this craziness !

I can't guarantee these figures but I'm sure I heard on TV today that 83 ? people a day die from gunshots in the USA which is around 30,000 in each year.

My youngest Son now lives 70 km from Miami - recently I asked him if he kept a gun for protection ?
No Dad No ! He's working as a Psychologist so he should have a job for life in the USA methinks.

Yet all the Americans I meet seem to be great Guys. I just don't get it ???

That's the NRA Myth #3: An armed society is a polite society.

The facts look different:  Drivers who carry guns are 44% more likely than unarmed drivers to make obscene gestures at other motorists, and 77% more likely to follow them aggressively.
• Among Texans convicted of serious crimes, those with concealed-handgun licenses were sentenced for threatening someone with a firearm 4.8 times more than those without.
• In states with Stand Your Ground and other laws making it easier to shoot in self-defense, those policies have been linked to a 7 to 10% increase in homicides.

Apparently the perpetrator had a British passport although he was born in California.
Al Jazeera is running a documentary on how the Swiss have a proliferation of arms in private hands but they do not have the same murder problem as the USA.
Johnnie - your facts back up myth 3 but as for the NRA, how could the NRA possibly forward such a bizarre idea ?
Carrying guns promotes politeness ? Boll*cks to that I'm afraid.
Carrying guns gives the power of coercion or violence which is hardly polite.
Bizarre.
