I tried to go back to this place today, but it was closed. That's the second time this week. No sign. Nothing.

Their advertised opening hour is 10 AM. I was there on Monday about 10:20 AM. Closed. I went back on Wednesday at about 10:15. They were open, but had yet to turn on their espresso machine, so I had a long wait for my cappuccino. Back today at 10:30. Closed. I won't bother to go again. I'm on a bicycle. It's a long way (20 minutes) to peddle to disappointment.

I gave up on Café Sixteen for the same reason. Supposedly open at 10:00, but every time I've ridden there in the last few weeks it has still been close well after that hour.

Do the businesses here really expect their customers to be loyal to them if they're not loyal to their customers?

 :lol :lol :lol

Café Ama is a wonderful exception. Always open on time. If they are going to be closed, they always put up a big notice well in advance. Quick service. Good Lao coffee.

Anyway, on the way home I stopped in at Sugar Sugar. It turned out to be a pleasant surprise.

An espresso machine takes no more than five or ten minutes to heat up from cold. Perhaps they sent him away so that they could close before he returned. Now, why would a business do that?  :lol

On yer bike, mate!  :hunter

I can answer that question, Saf.  Would you want a customer like him in your restaurant, carefully carrying on these spy missions hoping for an establishment to put a sign out displaying their opening and closing hours so he can post about it on Alfie's forum?

If you had to stare at this everyday (see pic below), you'd probably hop a bike too to look for anti-expat coffee shops to make sure they are adhering to their advertised opening and closing hours and catering to your morning coffee needs.

The self-styled and self-anointed restaurant/hospitality critics of Korat never cease to amaze me.

Arrogance knows no bounds with the bored that have little else to do.

If you ran a coffee shop in Korat, would you concern yourself with the feelings of eccentric farang cyclists? In any case, there are only two of them. One wanders the streets with nothing better to do than pick fault and the other is preoccupied with taking kiddies for rides on bikes paid for by someone else.

Bit of a shocker really and they probably have more that one pseudonym on these forums.

These types though eventually end up upsetting either a Thai or farang who has no sense of humour that simply won't tolerate some arrogant rubbish from some supercilious old fart.

With the types turning up steadily in Korat these days then it will only be a matter of time before going online in Korat will be a negative experience. It never used to be like this and now I find myself saying that there are so many tossers around here now that it's embarrassing.

There are good people but also a lot of lunatics of one persuasion or another knocking around and you need look no further than some certain information portals/mediums to see it as the decent folks vote with their feet generally.

Korat will eventually go the way of many other cities and locations that have/used to have decent forums....ie, were good but a whole load of twats turned up and started making the forums crap because people end up being bullied....hence the exodus of decent posters that can't be arsed with it.

I could go on and on and on.....got days worth of this sort of stuff.

Whoa!  The pic of that coffee critic's comb-over is worst than the one I used to have.  He better pray the wind doesn't kick up and shift in his direction.  Looks like a lot of lacquer going on there.

Let's have a closer look at it. What is the consensus? Hairline and color seems too perfect along with that heavy hair spray shell to keep it in place.

Yeah, looks like a carefully taken care of toupé........unless of course it's the 'dolls hair' implant style stuff which would be even funnier.

Agree....and let's be candid here for a moment.  This is more entertaining than, "what are you listening to right now."
Back on topic.  I once new an Afro-American who used to go around the "hood" showing polaroid shots of his failed "doll hair" implants.  Really, is that something one would want to share with the community?  Can't he think of anything worse to say to everyone?  "Hi everyone, I also have a small penis, no idea how to work the bongo drums,  and can't play basketball."  ::)

They're off again.  :hunter

Nookie has served the farang in Korat well over the last few years and still has very good support. He has recemtly expressed his views about gun laws in the Wild West and promoted his excellent curries and now two members are out to get him. What a sad bunch they are.

By the way, for those who live south of town, Nookie drops orders at Top Cafe in Pak Thong Chai as he travels to and from Pattaya. So, that's twice a week when he goes to buy his stock. Great service.

Excellent curries also, by the way.

Some people who probably dont have a pot to pi.ss in get jealous when other people get on in life.

then try to ruin there business. But that forum is known for its nastiness and is not supervised very well.

As nookie would say "a few no hopers" I say good luck to any farang getting on here. :cheers

Nookie, I read the posts from Old Timer and I think it's safe to say that we all know who he is.  I for one will never purchase any products from one of the people he promotes in his posts.  It's not because the product is inferior, but because of the arrogant pompous attitude from the owner of that establishment.

Personally, your drop off deliveries at the Walrus work out perfectly for everyone.  I've never seen anyone complain about it on the forums, have you?.....Only that jackass on k-f who is trying to promote his own business.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, someone, but I believe that Nookie was delivering Western food to people in the vicinity of Cho Ho long before a shop opened in the area doing the same. If I'm correct, then no-one can reasonably complain. Even the shop opened first, there's no reason why a competitor should avoid the area, as someone elsewhere has suggested.

I went to a "well renowned" establishment today.  Not only was I made to wait a full 5 minutes for my freshly prepared food but they had the audacity to charge a reasonable sum (no discount for first-time purchaser or farang!).  The coffee was merely "very nice" and only of average size and the staff (well, I call her staff but she didn't appear to have any uniform!) actually attended to another customer before serving me and then, rudely I thought, tried to engage me in friendly conversation! :cussing.  The chef spoke not a word of English and, when I had finished my meal, he disturbed my reading by clearing my place and asking if I would like anything else in some strange foreign language (could have been Thai for all I know!)

I certainly shall not return for a while as the establishment in question has inconsiderately set itself up 50 km from my residence without asking me first and, having no private and secure car park or shuttle bus service, I had to park my vehicle in the street directly opposite.

Is it any wonder that restaurants like this fail to survive when the customer is so obviously placed beneath such mundane things as realism or practicality!

Yours

Extremely annoyed from Korat

.....Seriously Saf - popped in at Top Cafe today and met your better half (and very lovely she is too).  Lovely food and coffee and will be back sometime soon!

Ah, it was you!

I have asked my better half to call me when any English speaking farang drops by so that I can call in and say 'Hi'.  She always forgets but tells me when she gets home. TIT, as they say. To be fair, I was in Korat when you were there today.

The sous chef ( :)) is learning to speak English but only so that he knows what we farang are saying about him.

Next time, please ask her to call me and I'll be there before you can say 'Another coffee'. Or PM me in advance.

I'm glad you enjoyed your meal. I understand that you chose from the extensive Thai menu. Never fails to please.

Cheers Saf, will do.

I reckon I will wait until I have the car next time (t'other half had pinched it!) as 50km seems a long way on a scooter and you end up feeling like a human windscreen - covered in squashed bugs!
Now my anonymity is blown, I guess I'll have to be civil. :cheers

Certainly a car is better for that trip.

Don't waste the bugs. Stop off in one of the villages where people will buy them from you.
