Are some drunk farang  "late kids" in Korat, expecially in Phimai district, abusing the internet  by impersonating others to cause damage to them, posting rubbish and deception, is it rather a problem with drunks unable to remember their own nick when intoxicated, is it a mental problem they have to deal with? Or do they just want to show their admiration for a celebrity?

I've been thinking about  viciousness people could be ridden by,whether the impersonation could be to prove "in vino veritas" (There's truth in the wine), when they post stuff under the nick of a known person, whether they intended to compromise that person.

I got to the conclusion that there cannot be any excuse of having committed the impersonation under the influence of alcohol or pot, when the same person regularly logs into his own forum with a dozen or more different nicks, and posts "from different perspectives" to make his forum appear busy. So we can rule out that he simply forgot his own nick, and just used what came into his mind: a nick that is going around his brain permanently, either as somebody he does admire or is afraid of. But remembering so many nicks of fictitious posters shows sufficient mental ability left to distinguish between his own and another person's nick. That he used that nick on purpose is the only option left.

Now there is only one situation where peoples' personal rights (to their own name or nick etc.) can be limited. Persons of permanent exposure in politics and social life, persons of history etc., just have to bear that their name or nick is used fictitiously for various purposes. Whether it was abuse has to be determined within the context of that use. To protect the "buddy" in Phimai I don't want to go into details of that at this point. In any case the use of my nick as commentator on somebody else's blog, referring to this forum itself, signifies that the "buddy" in Phimai holds me in high esteem as a "person of permanent exposure in politics and social life, person of history etc.", short: a celebrity. Who would even think of a fellow expat having permanent mental problems to that degree to go vicious and turn cyber-criminal? It must have been an expression of holding me in high esteem then! I thank him for that! ;)

So the nonsense has spread beyond down town Korat, then.

Can you list the known impersonations, please?

"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" - Charles Caleb Cotton.

Impersonation is a different matter, particularly when used to misrepresent, defame, defraud, or is done with malicious intent.

If someone has created another 'Johnnie F', knowing full well what they are doing, and is posting to cause damage to your reputation and credibility you have every right to indignation and anger.

It seems like so much effort and such a waste of time. Surely there are more creative things to do?

It has been brought to my attention that the user "thaiga" and other people have been copying my blogs with pictures and posting on these forums with no credit to me or link back to my blog.

The "intrigue game" was even played with impersonation, as it wasn't me who posted that on RB's blog:
