Anonymous hacker claims credit for huge net takedown
« on: September 11, 2012, 03:19:58 PM »
Tech website TechCrunch reported that the outage had affected millions of websites and email services run by GoDaddy.

The attack was claimed on Twitter by a user named Anonymous Own3r, who identified himself as the "Security Leader" of Anonymous and claimed to be from Brazil.

A separate tweet from another Anonymous account said that GoDaddy had been targeted because in the past it had supported controversial US legislation like the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect IPAct (PIPA).

GoDaddy, which claims to be the world’s largest internet registrar, said that it was aware of the problem, which began at around 1700 GMT and was making progress in fixing it.

"Status Alert: Hey, all. We’re aware of the trouble people are having with our site. We’re working on it," "Update: Still working on it, but we’re making progress. Some service has already been restored. Stick with us."//DPA
