Abuse of Email address @koratfart.com
« on: October 19, 2012, 02:42:02 PM »
It has come to my knowledge, that somebody is abusing our domain koratfart.com forwarding fraudulent emails over the internet!

The emails are labeled accounting@koratfart.com as sender. There is no such email address set up and used by me or anybody associated with this forum!

The sender uses an email client "Microsoft Office Outlook, Build 11.0.9510" and sends over

IP-Adress: 186.116.66.252
Provider: COLOMBIA TELECOMUNICACIONES S.A. ESP
Region: Cartagena (CO)

When email is sent over an email client one can just enter any email address as sender he likes, even ones registered and owned by other people. Like one can write a false return address on an envelope. It is criminal abuse, definitely not a game!

Perhaps there are two obvious culprits.

As this can be done by anybody there might be even more suspects. I posted about this abuse for public information to make clear that it doesn't come from me or anybody associated with this forum. To let people know it's a scam by somebody exceeding what is socially accepted, somebody committing a  Computer Crime again. A witch-hunt for the suspect wasn't intended. This kind of abuse is disgusting, but can be considered "everyday life" in Korat and by people having a dislike of people in Korat, I would say. They can speak up on forums like TD or so, but intriguing via faked emails is going a bit far! :cussing

There are plenty of idiots around wanting to cause damage to others or gain benefits for themselves by abusing a domain name that is owned by another person/company, be it by registering it in a slightly modified form or by faking an email "sent" from that domain. That's why there is always a lot more info about the sender in the header of the email. If somebody gets such an email he should check the header (message options) to find out who really sent it before concluding it was the domain owner. The IP will be shown. If it's a proxy server in some other country and has been sent over an email client, a mailing list etc. you can conclude it's a fake.

Do you remember the prick who posted LM on this forum over a proxy server just to cause damage to me and this community?

Are there no limits to expats in this geographic community called Nakhon Ratchasima - and to those people wanting to cause damage to them -, no standards of good conduct?

JF, it's not the Korat expat. community in general. Just a few social misfits.

That's why I didn't use an article for expats - to leave it undefined by me who these persons might be, and open to everyone's own interpretation. :)

The problem is that the rate of misfits in expatriate societies is always a lot higher than back home in the society grown over a long time. This shouldn't keep us from attempting to get the rotten apples despite their age back onto an acceptable path and support our host society's efforts to reduce crime and abuse also for our benefit.

Since almost seven years now we work on the Korat expats community, attempting improvements in communication to be able to pursue and fulfill common interests. Though the topic "Korat Expats Club" became substituted by the Drinking Buddies on the old KF there are some improvements visible, though they're very small. But Rome wasn't built in one day, either!

I can only think of one person who has a history of impersonating people and would do it again, because he's done it to Korat Cat, several expats, a new local law firm by dropping the hyphen in the name, and even me.  I've actually seen the actual messages (saved all of them) he wrote using my name in order to try and impersonate me.  He even signed them with my full name, something I never ever do.  He misspelled several things, which was the give away, not to mention his style of writing and lack of grammar.  The icing on the cake was when the IP of the impersonator was given to me and I was able to track it to him (hard and concrete evidence).
