NAKHON RATCHASIMA — A school administrator is in hot water over a video that captured him losing his temper with protesting students and slapping one of them in the head. The incident occurred at Soeng Sang school at Ban Bua Luang in tambon Soeng Sang on Friday, when dozens of students refused to attend classes and gathered on the football pitch to demand an accounting of the money that school officials had collected.

Bangkok Post reports that the 'slap-happy teacher' put aside his “teacher spirit” to settle the case by apologising and paying a 500-baht fine."

Can you believe it? Just 500 Baht! It should have been more like his salary of three months. I guess that could amount to 60,000+ Baht for penalty only. In addition to that he would have to pay a hefty compensation in a Western society and would have lost his job on top of that. Can only be hoped, that he actually feels sorry and adjusts his future behavior appropriately.

The story seems to go on. Bangkok Post reports that he has been transferred to a smaller school. He will keep his position as deputy director at the new school. However, legal action against him continues. Authorities are considering imposing further disciplinary action against him, based on his "lack of ethics" and "impolite" behavior toward students.

Now Bangkok Post reports that the Nakhon Ratchasima Secondary Education Area 31 Office has decided to slap another "severe" penalty on him. They want to cut his salary for one month by 10 %, stating that's the maximum penalty they could impose. I hope they'll not end up giving him a reward! :-[

If he wanted to get back on terms with his pupils and be respected, the way to go is get down and wai  :wai them with an apology.

Remember the shoe anointment teacher she got a standing ovation for her apology.
