Ban Muang Pak School For Special Needs Chidren
« on: October 24, 2013, 04:11:08 PM »
A couple of days ago, Mrs. saf heard about a school in a nearby village that cares for children up to eighteen years of age who have special needs. They include autism, blindness, polio and other disabilities.

We visited the school today and spoke with the head teacher. I would have taken photographs but the children are on vacation at the moment so nothing much is happening. The government allows the school to occupy a small, old building but, apart from paying the teachers, gives very little financial support and there is no budget. The teacher are cultivating three or four rai for fruit and vegetables for the children and to sell to raise funds. About three quarters of that small farm has been destroyed by the recent flood.

We saw the two class rooms and there is very little equipment. We asked what they needed most and the answer was that, above everything else, they need to raise THB40,000 to connect the school to the electricity grid. At present, a supply comes from the nearby Tessa Ban which charges around THB3,000 per month. The teachers can afford only lighting at that cost. They have no fans, computers, fridge or other electrical equipment. Someone down the road is making a profit from needy children.

We are waiting for details of the bank account into which donations can be paid. If anyone here wishes to help, please let me know and I'll pass on that information when I have it.

For those who know the area, the schools is at Ban Muang Pak, Amphur Pak Thong Chai, close to Ban Han. This is a very worthy cause so please spare what you can.

I omitted to mention that the school currently cares for 50 children and the number is expected to rise to 100 soon.

I now have bank account details for anyone who would like to help this school.

The explanation I gave for the required expenditure of THB40,000 was incomplete and I now have more detail. It does include connection to the grid as I indicated but much more work is required. The school building stood empty for quite a number of years. Consequently, all of the electrical system needs to be replaced in and around the building. That will include new wiring, breaker boards, grounding, lights, switches and sockets.

Another need, after the electrical work is complete, will be concrete on the approach from the soi and on the outdoor play area. At present, the surface is either dust or mud according to the season. The children have been using stepping stones to get across the mud to the toilet block.

Some work has already been done thanks to donations. The toilet block has been renovated. The two rooms upstairs have been decorated and the open sided ground floor has a good tiled floor.

If anyone would like to know more or visit the school, please let me know. Donations can be paid direct to the bank account.

Many thanks to those who have contributed so far. The cash donations will be credited to the school's bank account.

A good thing about this form of direct help is that all of the money donated goes to pay for what's needed. None is skimmed off for administration expenses as happens with registered charities.

I hope to get over to the school soon and take some pics. of the activities there.

Hi audi,

I'm not very good with Google Maps but it's west of Pak Thong Chai off the 304 on the northerly of the two roads to Ban Han. If that doesn't help enough, let me know and I'll see what else I can do.
