Assumption School, Korat (opinion)
« on: February 04, 2013, 05:34:18 PM »
Hello,

This is my first post here, I have signed up because I will soon be relocating to Korat City.

I'm a British Expat (currently Pattaya) for 8 years, I work in Engineering.

I have a 2yr 4mths boy who I need to get into a school up in Korat, I am guessing within the next few months. We should be there for the long term.

I have done some research online and have come across a school that seems pretty good, that is Assumption College, is this the best school in Korat? (let's assume money was no object for a moment)

Also, does Assumption College teach proper British English or that strange dialect adopted by the former colonies that omits U's and add Z's for no apparent reason :-)

Another question, with it being a Catholic School - How much of a part does Catholicism play in day to day life there. I'm not religious and I don't have a problem with some good old fashioned values but I don't want my son coming home preaching to me, his Mother (Thai) would be bringing him up as a typical Thai (Buddhist).

Would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks

Hi TL, welcome to our forum!

The Catholic schools, Assumption and St. Mary's, both used to have a good reputation for teaching bilingually, as long as there wasn't an alternative. By what I hear the position of the alternative lacking has been filled by Sarasas School now. Actually I do hear more praises about that already. My friend's son was at St. Mary's before, but other parents convinced him of Sarasas being more suitable. We have started a thread about that school:

Having taught at one of those Catholic schools in Korat before, I gotta say, besides the principal being dressed in a nun's outfit I didn't notice much of Catholicism.
Fun is the one thing that money can't buy

Welcome to the forum TL.  Check out the thread as JF posted.  My son goes to Sarsas and we couldn't be happier.  He started at three years of age.  You can expect to pay around 20,000 per term not including uniforms, etc.  I'd stay way the hell away from Assumption.  St Mary's is okay, but they seem to have a high turnover of teachers.
