The George and Dragon
« on: February 23, 2013, 05:43:13 PM »
We will be closed on Monday 25th February for Budda Holiday. Cannot serve alcohol so dont see much point. If anyone has different information would love to hear from you.

We haven't been told that it's a no alcohol day in Pak Thong Chai/ Mrs. saf says it's not a big Buddha day so 'no problem'. Watch out for scamming cops, though.

Any changes at G&D with the new ownership?

Welcome to the forum :)  Indeed, Monday is Makha Bucha day and alcohol cannot be served, although some places serve special drinks in coffee mugs  ;)

Here's some info about the holiday.

Isn't Dhammathai a sect rather than part of Theravada Buddhism as practiced here?

What the monks want and what the law says are two different things. There's been no indication out here that alcohol will be banned by the police.

Aint that the truth.  I remember years ago when I was having lunch at Sizzler at The Mall on the King's Birthday and there were several tables with Thais drinking Heineken.

Great news!

I used to enjoy lunch at the G&D but it was never a place I felt I could take my wife for an evening in town. Have things changed?

I think Andy runs it now.  If it's the same Andy I'm thinking of, he's a super guy. From London?

It's hard to believe that Andy doesn't look at replies with title reference to his establishment. I know another guy who used to hang out there and reads every letter of what's posted on this forum, hoping to find reference to himself. I assume he would tell Andy when ordering the next beer. ;)

Good evening - but I don't understand why posters are being the way they are about this ?
Seems like a fair offer to me. Not a G and D customer so I don't know the personalities or anything, can someone explain ?
Is advertising not allowed ? What is it about ?
Roast dinner - the stuff of dreams !
Nice weekend to all.

Roger, life definitely is not too short to take a stand and balance interests of services you're providing. If I had let others take over with what they want this forum to be or not to be, I would have had to close it down already years ago! Only taking and keeping a stand makes life worth living.

So advertising not allowed ?
And I daresay that applies to all.
I agree with your last sentence.

Private occasional advertising is allowed. Business advertising is limited to information about a business. The limits are set at suggestive and repeated advertising. Decent businesses usually do support social media like forums by donations, instead of taking advantage of them for free advertising. If I come to a bar, I don't get things for free either. With the prices I pay for food and drinks I also enable the owner to run his bar. Why should a forum not also be supported by the business that has an advantage from being able to place advertisements there? This forum here does get supported by members donations. Why should I let a business take advantage of what only other share in the costs?  That would be highly unfair to those people who do donate to keep this board from being plastered with business advertisements. It's about keeping the balance.

Thanks and that does make perfect sense. Is it ok for G&D Customers to report on the Roast ?
Sounds crazy I know - when it's circa 40 C - but - if the reports are good - I need a Roast. Sometime. (Not a Roasting).
And I do love Thai food too.

You can recommend a business as long as it isn't apparent that you're spamming for that business.

Spam is the use of electronic messaging systems to send unsolicited bulk messages, especially advertising, indiscriminately. While the most widely recognized form of spam is e-mail spam, the term is applied to similar abuses in other media.

Spamming remains economically viable because advertisers have no operating costs beyond the management of their mailing lists, and it is difficult to hold senders accountable for their mass mailings. Because the barrier to entry is so low, spammers are numerous, and the volume of unsolicited mail has become very high. In the year 2011, the estimated figure for spam messages is around seven trillion. The costs, such as lost productivity and fraud, are borne by the public and by Internet service providers, which have been forced to add extra capacity to cope with the deluge. Spamming has been the subject of legislation in many jurisdictions.
