The Best Restaurants in Korat 2013 (Western Food)
« on: February 26, 2013, 05:23:16 PM »
There are plenty of restaurants serving Asian food in Korat, and I wouldn't know where to start naming them. So, the concern of this thread is only restaurants serving Western and maybe also Thai dishes. Not only because of a growing number of expats living in Korat, but mainly because our Thai hosts also do enjoy Western culture in Korat, like dining in restaurants with dishes exotic to them, just as most of us have done visiting Thai restaurants in our home countries. My aim is to put a list/thread with info together, where Western dishes are available in restaurants operated by farangs or Thais, where, let's say, at least 1/4 of the menu has Western dishes. Our thread there is hopelessly out of date, I was told by a well known restaurateur in Korat a few days ago. So we should update the info.

I did this as a poll, where members of this forum can vote for resp. recommend up to three restaurants already listed. The vote will run for 14 days. Views and information about these restaurants can be shared on this thread.

Sorry, if I missed some, but Korat is big, and I don't know every corner. Please don't hesitate to supply more info! Or ask for more info about one or the other restaurant.  ;)

Hi Johnnie, Good idea.  But I wonder if you could do a similar thing for Thai restaurants?  One of my favourites is Hansa Restaurant (www.facebook.com/hansakorat)  They have very good food (quite phet but not too bad), there are singers with acoustic guitar and a very extensive (non Thai) wine list.  Probably safe to post these details now that Cobra Gold have gone home.

Watching this one with interest - Chez Andy in the lead at the moment - very good food but certainly not the cheapest - he does a lot of promotion and feature nights.
I have some Swiss friends and they swear by Oasis Restaurant in Pak Thong Chai  - maybe include this one next year ?
'Tis very good IMHO too.

Why don't you start a thread with info about Oasis Restaurant, Roger, as I haven't heard more than the name of it. Our readers would certainly appreciate the info.

That Chez Andy is in the lead is hardly a wonder, as he's been around since 15 years already, fulfilling the role of the classy foreign restaurant for Thais and foreigners alike. Being in a good location just a few steps from Night Bazar and having its own parking lot directly at the entrance are more features for success.

You're right about the promotion and feature nights. I've been there last weekend for a big wedding party. So I know and can tell you his next promotion:

February 9 and 23, 2013 18:00 with live entertainment:
Something for young people: Spaghetti Party, consisting of Salad Bowl, 6 sauces, lots of Spaghetti and Parmesan Cheese, eat es much as you like, price per person 250 Baht.
Steak Promotion, Beef tenderloin or Beef Rib eye or Beef Sirloin or Porksteak, Salad, Side dish of choice, 1 Glass House wine or 1 Glass draft Beer or 1 Softdrink, 459 Baht.

 :cheers

P.S. I think you can find out about feature nights and promotions from his  website When I hear about them I might post on the forum, as they seem to be quite popular and demanded.

Oasis is about 100 metres from Top Cafe, the place where Swiss, German, Austrian and Scandinavian expats. and visitors meet frequently along with native English speakers. Top Cafe is also a favourite with vegetarian students and white clad monks from the International Buddhist College down the road. Top Cafe offers the best pizzas in town.

For my taste, Pitini has the best western food around here. Chez Andy is upper class in service and with his promotion activities, he hit the attention of his guests. In the wider area, I see good western food in OASIS (Pak Thong Chai) and Chok Chai Gardenrestaurant. If I search for good cosy athmosphere and good food, distance is not a topic.

Dear KoratFart members,
i like to thank you for voting Chez Andy Restaurant as the best Korat western restaurant for 2013. As i said on my facebook page, a voting like it was done is actually not a so serious thing!
Polls are almost emotional driven specialy here in Korat where jealousy, envy and other human factors are very marked!
Real Restaurant testers are looking more on professional standards like ambiance, table set ups, sanitary standards, uniforms, service, decoration of the restaurant, and of course the most important the taste, preparation and presentation of each meal.
Cooking and its techniques are skills which you have to learn on a serious and long time basis. I do it since 1967!
Ok my friends one more time don't be to serious and thank all which got there vote my foods, my restaurant and my STAFF!
Regards
Andy

Hi Andy,

welcome to the forum!

Of course  are the members of this forum, who voted in the poll, no experienced and accreditated restaurant critics. I think most of them don't want to be in the spotlight with their remarks about businesses, and therefore prefer the anonymity of a poll. Also this poll serves more as an incentive for people, what to try in search of what might suit their individual expectations. Take the poll as an introduction.

 :cheers
