New bar and restaurant in Korat
« on: February 13, 2010, 12:13:52 PM »
With little interest I usually follow the discussions about new bars and restaurants on another forum. But now the post of an owner made me curious: "Everyone is welcome.  It is just the fact that we have noticed that 95% of the farangs in Korat are people we would rather not have as customers."  ;D

The owner should rename the place 'Baan Fruitcake'

Maybe he is trying to make his customers feel they are in the elite 5 percent :)

There're a fair few that can hold claims to that title. ;)

poshkid answered you "no", but due to his off topic and flaming referral to a real identity his post had to be removed. :(

I didn't check his birth certificate for the name, but he is known in Korat by that name. I can imagine that it's the name in his passport too... ;)

Don't worry, the guy's delusional, it's common for farangs to reside in 'La La Land' here. We've all heard it before, especially if you've stayed here longer than a year.  ;)

I removed two more posts. But there's one sentence from the first I want to leave: "Why not come meet me face to face?" Why don't you just do that instead of bothering the public with your personal warfare on forums?

This thread is about the "advertisement" of that new bar & restaurant owner saying he would rather not have 95 % of the farangs in Korat as customers - AND NOT FOR PROVING HIM RIGHT! ::)

YEP, back on topic Ive just read the article and that bar owner must be right off his trolley critiscisng Korat customers of his own bar,
what an idiot and isnt that what  potter and others rightly said. So Babyfarts attack on Potter seems unjustified unless its just another childish jibe at  the Brits :P

I'm sure we're all aware of certain actions and reactions. They've been practiced in Korat for more than just a year. Point is to let them not matter. It takes quite some time to improve. That is, if people want these problems to be solved. Pouring oil into the fire doesn't help. Too much removing of posts by me doesn't help either. When we're aware of how insignificant these tensions are they might become loose and be forgotten completely.

As you said: "just another childish jibe at  the Brits" and not at all unlike the childish jibes of some Korat Brits against other nationalities. If they remain obviously childish they're not gonna cause WW3 ;D

I read the last post ( by Baby Farts but now deleted) and now fully understand what the owner of We House meant. I take my hat off to Ian's shrewd observation and judgment and his bravery is stating his views publicly. He must be confident in getting enough custom from Thais for his business to survive. Good luck to him.

Not easy to pull the Thais in in large numbers, but if he can, then fair enough. Gotta mention though that you're going to have to deal with the mentally ill and criminals at some point here, even if just to get rid of them, if you open a bar or restaurant. They aren't confined just to Pattaya etc. What was he expecting? Walton-on-the-Barrow?

However, slagging people off is probably not the best way to go about it, even if he's semi right, sounds a bit sanctimonious. It's Up to him though, it's his business.

I agree Dude. I also wonder if Ian made a mistake with his numbers. I don't believe that 95% of farangs in Korat are undesirables. More like 5% or less. Ian must have been hanging out in the wrong places with the wrong guys.

Very good point! I wonder where he got his impressions from:

- the internet,

- The Mall,

- other establishments and which

- or secondhand from a really professional consultant?

Most of the western expats (I hate the term 'farangs') in Korat don't post on the internet or hang out at The Mall regularly or show up at central bars or restaurants from time to time; most actually lead quiet family lives at home and in contact with just a few close friends.

Or did he mean 95 % of those who desperately want to be noticed?  ;)

Hi Guys,

I'm soon to be returning to Nakhon nowhere so you'll be hearing and see much more of me!
But i was intriqued to see a reference to the "FBI agent"! I was a regular visitor to korat between 2002-2005 and met a guy in the restaurant next to the pizza shop (Israely owned it i think) who matched this description! I say matched but he wasn't bald, did/does he have a colleague operating undercover in the area or is this the same guy? A bit off topic but really surprised me to see a ref, he kept us 'entertained' with his stories on many a beer chang fuelled evening!

I also need advice on relocating, back when I was familar most of the foreigners lived near the sima thani. Is this still the case? I probably need to post this in a different section, redirection welcome!

Hope to meet some of you soon.
Kind Regards
Jan

Don't even waste the time or effort on the Geord. He's a loser. Still working as a school teacher at his age. Married to a girl half his age because he couldn't land a bird back in his own country. He drinks excessively and follows football like a little kid.  he's vain and repulsive to look at. Perhaps  he's already suffering. Selling oil back in his hometown must have been boring.

Hi PR,
Was that post for my benefit? Geord?
Think I need an update, perhaps i'll leave this thread if ive entered into some heated debate??
Nearly all the 'farangs' go down that road of teaching English. Not very innovative of them but a good honest way to earn a living if you still need the money.

OK! Thats easy enough, I am from the UK.
As they say in the share forum world DYOR.... so I have.
I now have a little of the picture, Posh is the Geordie (rather ironic i feel!) and PR obviously doesn't see eye to eye with him! As a newbie i'm staying well out. Sure I'll make enough enemies when i arrive (the beer chang affect!) I don't need to start now.
No news on the FBI agent? He's probably well gone by now along with most of the people i drank with all those years ago.
If there are any Korat long termers here please come forward and see if we met.... I'll try and remember :)

Jan..I think you will find that the ex Fbi guy is not that far away ;) but still continues to spill the bile and that im afraid is destined to never change..He really doesnt know fact from fiction. Hes even claiming now that he has black skin :D As always he distorts everything to fit into his dreamworld in the vain hope that somebody will give a fig,, He is rapidly annoying the entire population..doesnt like Brits Canadians French or even the very peaceful Dutch..Hes a nutter. After assaults on various French Canadians and Dutch he is not focusing his useless time in pursuit of Brits. The Geordie in question is only 14 years older than his 45 year old missus. is clearly a footie nut, and as for selling oil..very lucrative I would think especially if it was he was a director in the
company...Boy this nutter will never change...Why does he bother ???????

While it's not unlikely that you and another member "share computers and internet connection to post here", it doesn't seem to be the case where you think it is. Any chance to keep things from getting more and more confusing, posh?  ;D
