Korat sports entertainment
« on: October 25, 2009, 09:12:01 PM »
You know I have been around for a while and too lazy to do any active sports myself except, well you know... ;) Bu I do enjoy attending sports events as a spectator. I heard thereis a race track in Korat. Has anyone ever been there? Do you have to burn in the heat there or is it quite nice to sit there in a crowd? There must be lots of other sports events one can attend as a spectator. I really like the women's junior basketball championships in the Mall. But I was lucky to hear about it before it was over.  ;)

Who knows about any events like that please post it for me. I hate to hang around the bars, but  neither do I wanna stay home all the time. And you know how it is with sightseeing tours: you gotta take your wife's whole clan along. But for sports they didn't show any interest yet, might even want to stay home and watch TV when asked to come along.  ;)

Quidquid agis, prudenter agas et respice finem!

I'm not sure what you mean by "race track". There is a horse racing track not far from Bungtalua lake. There are regular race meetings. I think there is a small entrance fee and a form of betting is allowed on the horses. Think of it as entertainment rather than a way to make money. From my observations of the races, the race winner has been decided before the horses set off. The spectator area is under cover. I think the races take place on Saturdays.

If you mean athletics tracks, there are at least 6, of varying standards. The best ones are 1. at the Central stadium not too far from Maharat hospital, 2. the new SEA games stadium on the Pak Tong Chai road and, 3. the stadium at SUT (Suranaree University of Technology). There are also at least 3 dirt tracks at 1. Ratchasima school, 2. Rajapat University and 3. near the entrance to Suranaree military camp.

Regarding the horse racing venue, remember that gambling is illegal.

Also, I hear that there is a little farang breast and bottom pincher who infests the place and makes a nuisance of himself. Apparently, when he was a child, last week, he misunderstood the saying, ' a little titter ran around the audience'. However, it's hearsay and is probably not true.

My understanding was that gambling was legal at the horse races, ie the Bangkok horse racing place and the Udon Thani one, could be wrong but they are a hive of gambling :)

I'm not interested in either horse racing or gambling but I hear that the two are combined, quietly, at the Korat race track.
