Isaan Dancing Girls, Food And Parties

Do you accept invitations to parties in Issan? You should from time to time but, eventually, it's more out of politeness than the expectation of a good evening out.

Does anyone have any information on where to hire one of these shows (esp for THB 15,000). My wife wants to have a party in her village in June for my birthday and she has been getting quotes for about triple this amount. Thanks in advance for any info.

Sorry, I don't know that area. if your local people are expensive (or are they trying for a special farang price?) try around Non Thai, Non Sung and Phui Mai. The local grapevine should be able to help.

Thanks Saf. Non Thai isn't too far, 25 min or so. Will tell the wife to ask around that area as she is in Thailand now. The party would be on June 23rd if it happens. Will post directions here if it does in case any farangs want to stop by so I'm not the only one.

niktennis,

Looking into it for you.  It should NOT cost you more than 20,000 max and that's for a top of the line show.  I'll post more details and a contact number as soon as I can get the info.

Here you go, Nik.  You can see the telephone number on the banner.  This pic was taken after a show.  As I said earlier, the price depends on how many dancers you want and how large of a stage and theatrics.  20,000 baht would be on the very high end of the scale.

The cost depends partly on how much commission the Mrs. takes, of course.  ;)

The commission could be more than the bill. :evilgrin

Ack!  I just got back from NonThai about an hour or so ago.  We went to a school for some homeless kids with my wife's friends.  They had this huge charity fundraiser, I'd say a few hundred students and a few hundred Thais.  I was the only farang there.  Well, it was more donations of goods, foods, clothes, soccer balls, soap, shoes, blankets, cups, dishes, etc.  Ban Nong Chim in Kam Saska Sen which is about 20 mins from NonThai.  Many of these kids have no parents, or their parents are in jail etc.....really a sad situation.

For the group here....Just want to add my 2 cents since we talked about charities on another thread.  I didn't see anyone giving out bicycles as donations and offering to take the kids bicycling on the already dangerous roads.  Given the living conditions of these poor children,  I think it's obvious what they need most.  The Thais and even the kids at this event knew. It isn't a bicycle, English lessons, or clandestine bike rides on the back roads and highways.

Quite so!

Local events by people who know what's needed and aren't attempting to puff up their own image can be very effective. They are legal too, unlike the collecting of distance donations in contravention of charity and tax laws.

What's with that picture of that guy with skinny bird legs, but a huge beer gut hanging out all over the place?  And another thing.  What's with that other pic, embracing with the Thai lads closely after a sweaty bike ride?

I have an idea for a charity for someone looking to puff up larger than he already is!  It works like this.  The person asks for all you people to give him money to purchase skateboards so that he can give them to all the poor kids in the villages.  You all send him the money, he'll buy the skateboards and give them to the kids thinking they got them "FREE" from him!  This way he can take all the credit without having to spend a dime and at the same time keeps all of you as an anonymous donors.  He can report his activities on a blog and can setup a very stealthy way to pay him by just clicking a button on the blog.

Some very useful and great activities he can include for the kids, could be late night skateboard riding at the Yamo park just opposite the IT plaza.  He could practice rail-riding (no pun intended) and ramp jumps with the other over achieving youths that frequent the area.  Afterwards, why not take them for a visit to one of the local expat watering holes in the area to show them what they are really missing out in the village.

Anyone want to take it on?  Any other activities that anyone can think of and ad to the list?
