Hi guys and girls,

Im coming to Korat in December to hold my wedding there. It is a chinese/thai wedding, so everything will be held on the morning up to mid day. No drinking of the normal fun stuff, however as my family and friends are coming to I thought I would take them and my wifes friends out for dinner and some drinks. Does anyone have any good suggestions where we can go? I hope to find a good pub with a nice outdoor area where we can have drinks and just chill. Maybe there are some roof top pubs/bars/clubs? It must be a nice place of course. Thanks for any inputs.

Are you sure that a party is not already being arranged for the evening? I'm not sure about Chinese-Thai weddings but the Thai morning ceremony is usually followed later by a sit down meal and p11s up with singers and dancing girls.

Got to agree with Saf, think you will find it's an all day and night do that has been arranged, never heard of them ending at lunch time, and if there is food there must be booze.

No drinks or evening stuff arranged, it is mostly a Chinese set up. So we will be having this with only our best friends. So if anyone know any good places please let me know. I have been there for a week, but did not see any special places. Was most small bars on street level, and the places I saw was not that nice. I did like Bali, however hoping to find something cooler.

I concur with Saf and JF. Pitini is a wonderful place! It does get busy there so you might want to call or make arrangements if you have a large party.

Thanks guys, had a look on that place. From the pictures I think I want a bit more flashy place thou, but might try it out when Im up there anyway. Surely in a city with many million people they must have a more fancy place?

Where will you be based for the wedding in the morning? That information might stimulate some ideas for an evening location.

If you spent a week in Korat, I'm a bit surprised that you think there might be a roof top establishment or that there are 'many million' people in Korat. You're getting married and yet have spent only one week in your wife's home town? I'm also surprised that your wife to be hasn't suggested a suitable restaurant for you.

Dates for weddings are carefully chosen in Thailand, especially in December. Just as a matter of interest, because these customs fascinate me, on what date this month will the ceremony take place?

Flashy places come with striking prices. Usually a "simple" traditional Thai village wedding with a party in the open, an entertainer, karaoke singers and dancers, beer Chang or Leo and usual Isaan food costs a 6-digit amount. If you want a ballroom in a big hotel with caviar and champagne better calculate a few digits more. You can contact the big hotels like Sima Thani and Dusit Princess to organize that for you. But I think your future wife's family will have taken care of already what suits their standard. It might be better not to interfere with their planning and do something that could embarrass them. Might be a bad start. Weddings are family and village events. Especially the wedding with a foreigner is something that cannot be celebrated in the inner circle of the family only. There aren't any flashy places in Korat IMO. My wedding was Thai-Chinese and was at the Hermatage Hotel with over 400 people. The food and everything was decent. Any of the bigger hotels can set you up with a nice package depending on how much you're willing to spend.

The morning cermony is arranged by the family, im not intefeering there Just have to show up hehe. Actually been there for 3 weeks, but not much anyway. The date was choosen in according what a munk said was a good date, apperantly he is one of the enlighted ones. Its on the 28th. I have been living with my wife for 2 years, but overseas and now we are going back to thailand for the wedding. Mostly to please her parents and protect the family honour.

Well this is not a thai wedding, but more a chinese setup. Will only be a morning tea cermony, going to the munks and having lunch. Thats it, no party is planned. Thats why I want to take out my farang friends and her friends for drinks and dinner, that means we wont be to many.
Her family is upper middle class, but not wanting any big flashy thing. Her mum is attending the temple every week and is there for 3 months straight every year. Her dad runs two shops (a animal feed shop and a beauty shop), all about hard work that man :-) Because of their background, they dont want any flashy thing. So the wedding will be small (80 ish people) and no party and no village event.

When I say flashy, im just hope there is a pub/club/resturant which is a bit better than the standard street stuff. The nicest one I saw there was a bar called Bali. Im arriving a few days before the wedding, so might just drive around having a look :-)

Staying at Dusit so might cheak out if they have a nice bar with an outside area.

hehe not sure where I have the milions of people from, as the muncipal area only have 142,645. Might struggle to find a place a roof top place then hehe. When I was there, it just seemed to be so many people there. Might have been something going on.

I'd still like to know which Chinese auspicious date has been chosen for the ceremony. Also, if you can give some idea of where you will be located on the wedding day we might be able to come up with some more bar ideas. There are some very good places out of town.

You need to Google the population figure again. You must have found an out of date site. Even for Nai Mueang alone your figure is incorrect.

I have been trying to find out whats expected of me, however my wife only says theres nothing to worry about. We will go see the munk the day before and on the day its a tea cermony were I must serve tea to her parents and grandparents. Then its lunch pretty much and thats it. Im sure its more, but thats the basic stuff.

In regards to sinsot, im quite lucky. I will put up X bath and some gold, however I get it all back as the parents thinks its better that we have that money for house and so on. Her dad has been in Norway so he knows how expensive it is here :-) So its more for the family honor I guess.

Bali was located in the center area, next to the channels. Had some nice Heinkeen and Johnny Walker girls working there too.

Actually, this is one of two places. We have another place as well, as it was not sure if they get the place ready again after the flooding.
But as the wedding is only during the morning, we dont mind going somewhere else for drinks at night. So please let me know if you have any place in mind. Suanthyng....might be an option for the night stuff as well, will have a look when I get there.

That population figure is only for the municipal area of Korat.

If you're staying at the Dusit, why not use their facilities? There's a ballroom downstairs that can be booked for parties.

Hi, the wedding went really well. It was a nice event, we ended up having drinks at the out door bar next to Dusit. Was really handy as we stayed at Dusit.

Grats. The Dusit is nice. That was the first hotel I ever stayed in when I first came to Korat ten years ago...back then it was called, "The Royal Princess" and was 1,200 baht a night!
