Two arrested with 105 pangolins
Two men were arrested on Wednesday night after 105 pangolins worth about 1.5 million baht on the blackmarket were found in the back of their pick-up truck at a checkpoint in Muang district of Nakhon Ratchasima province.
Pol Maj-Gen Prasit Thamdee, deputy chief of the Provincial Police Region 3, said at a press conference on Thursday that the two men - Atthapol Charungphan, 40, the driver, and Kanokpol Yotsongkram, 24 - said they were being paid 16,000 baht by another man to take the protected animals from a petrol station in Ayutthaya to a client in Nong Khai.
They said the pangolins had been smuggled in from Malaysia. From Nong Khai, the pangolins were to be smuggled across the border to Laos and then to China.
The two were charged with illegally having protected wildlife in their possession.
