A 22-wheel tanker carrying 50,000 litres of petrol was engulfed in flames while transferring the fuel into a storage tank at a petrol station in Pak Thong Chai district on Wednesday.

The incident occurred shortly before 1pm at a Susco petrol station at Ban Tha Nam Sap in tambon Nok Ok.

While the fuel was being transferred into the storage tank, sparks were coming from underneath the truck, which was then suddenly engulfed in flames, witnesses said.

Fire engines took about an hour to extinguish the blaze.  Fortunately, the fire did not spread to the storage tank.

An employee, Yon Sisan, 41, suffered burns to his legs but the injury was not considered serious.  He was admitted to Pak Thong Chai Hospital.
