Nakhon Ratchasima residents voice concerns over planned railway

A public forum in Nakhon Ratchasima province has revealed that most stakeholders are in favor of building a dual track railway through the city center. However, some residents have called for parts of the track to be elevated, in order to reduce the need for land expropriation.

The forum was the third public hearing of its kind over the construction of the dual track railway segment between Map Kabao - Thanon Chira Junction. The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) and the firm that drafted blueprints for the railway project invited any affected local residents of the capital district to come forward and discuss solutions.

One proposal was to elevate certain sections of the railway to minimize the need for land expropriation. Most of the residents were in favor of the elevated track running through the capital district, such as in Khon Kaen province, arguing that the land underneath the railway could still be used for intersecting roadways. The SRT said it would take their suggestions to the working committee in charge of the project.

The dual track railway through Nakhon Ratchasima will connect with the high-speed railway project, enhancing transportation and logistics from the northeastern region to Bangkok.
