Nakhon Ratchasima’s Irrigation Office has banned the floating of human ashes on five reservoirs in the province.

Chidchanok Somprasert, director of the office, said on Monday that he had issued the ban for fear that the ashes would contaminate the water used by local residents as a source of drinking water.

Lam Taklong, Lam Phra Ploeng, Lam Sae, Mool Bon and Lam Plaimat reservoirs are covered by the ban.

He issued the prohibition after many white cloths used for wrapping human ashes were found littered at the gate of Lam Taklong dam after the ashes had been floated in the reservoir.
