Red-shirts injured in bus crash

Thirty-eight red shirts were injured, six of them seriously, when a chartered bus taking them from the rally site in Bangkok back to Nong Bua Lamphu province overturned on Tuesday night on the Mittrapap highway in Nakhon Ratchasima's Sikhiu district, police said.

Pol Maj Prapas Marerngsit of Khlong Phai police station in Sikhiu district said the air-conditioned bus operated by Chok Amnuay Transport Co skidded off a Nakhon Ratchasima-bound lane and overturned in a drain dividing the highway between kilometre markers 87 and 88.

The accident happened about 10.23pm. The driver fled the scene.

Twenty-four women and 14 men were injured and helped from  the crashed bus by rescuers.  Six of them were seriously hurt.  All were admitted to Maharaj Hospital in Nakhon Ratchasima.

The bus was taking about 50 supporters of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) from the rally site at Phan Fa bridge in Bangkok back to Na Wang district of Nong Bua Lamphu province.

Earlier on Tuesday, four red-shirts were killed and two seriously hurt when a pick-up they were travelling in skidded off the road and hit  a tree in Phan district of Chiang Rai province.  They were returning home to Phan district from the UDD rally in Bangkok.

On Monday, one man was killed and six others badly injured when their vehicle overturned in Chalerm Phrakiat district in Nakhon Ratchasima province.
