Korat plantations destroyed by wild elephants

About 10 wild elephants from the Thap Lan National Park have invaded on more than 10 plantations in Khon Buri district, destroying a large amount of farm produce during the past week, said a village chief.

Samran Setkrathok, chief of Ban Thung Takhian village in tambon Khok Krachai, said the farm produce destroyed by the elephants include cucumber, banana and long bean.

Planters have to stay alert around the clock to watch for the wild elephants and push them away.

He said concerned government agencies have mobilised volunteers from villages in the area to keep a lookout for the wild elephants and push them away before they can cause more destruction.
