Thai Commerce Ministry And CP Provide Public With Cheap Eggs

BANGKOK, Oct 31 (Bernama) -- Thai Commerce Ministry and Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CP) have brought cheap eggs to sell to people at Bangkok's Or Tor Kor market, following the current shortage of eggs caused by logistics problem during the country's ongoing flood crisis.

The event took place on Sunday morning, reports Thai News Agency (TNA).

About 3,000 packs of mixed eggs were brought from CPF's farm in north-east Nakhon Ratchasima province. They were retailed at 90 baht per pack and each family was allowed to buy only one pack. Thousands of people were seen queuing at the market since 8 a.m. although the market opened at 9.30 a.m.

Deputy Prime Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong, who is also Commerce Minister, was present at the event to help officials sell the eggs.

The commerce minister said the private sector was requested by the government to supply eggs at a discounted price, noting that this was an initial measure to assure there was enough food for the public during the flood crisis.

From Monday, the Commerce Ministry would import 3 million chicken eggs that would be retailed at fresh markets, he added.
