Nakhon Ratchasima hit by cold weather

BANGKOK, 10 January 2012 (NNT) – All districts in Nakhon Ratchasima province have been declared cold spell disaster areas. The governor has instructed related units in the province to draw up measures to deal with cold spells and possible drought.

Nakhon Ratchasima Governor Chuan Sirinantporn said all 32 districts in the province are under the disaster declaration after the temperature continuously dropped last week. The declaration was issued so as to allow related government agencies to disburse budgets to purchase warm clothes for needy people.

Mountainous districts and remote areas in the province are found to be most affected by the cold weather.

Apart from the cold spell, Nakhon Ratchasima is also subject to drought and water shortage which occur every year. The areas expected to be hard hit by drought include those which lack an irrigation system and water resources, such as Phra Thong Kham and Dan Khun Thot districts.
