Agricultural Extension Dept holds fruit fair, helps farmers in South

BANGKOK, 9 September 2013 (NNT) – The Department of Agricultural Extension (DOAE) has organized a fruit fair with an aim to help farmers in the Southern cope with dropping prices of fruit.

The fair was held in Nakhon Ratchasima until September 9,2013. Fruit from Chumphon, Surat Thani, and Nakkon Si Thammarat was available for buyers to purchase at reasonable prices. According to the DOAE, the fair was to help fruit farmers in the South cope with with low fruit prices as there was an oversupply of fruit in the market at this time of year.

The fair was held in front of Nakhon Ratchasima City Hall, where visitors could find varieties of fruit such as rambutans, mangosteens, durians, longkong, stink beans, and other tropical fruits.

According to the Agricultural Extension Department, the fruit sold at the fair did not come through middlemen, meaning fruit buyers find at the fair, would be considerably lower price. Lastly, the department expected to sell more than 100 tons of fruit during the event.
