It was playing fine in one direction, just the reverse was less good since a tube smoked. It needs oil  and contacts cleaned. The loading arm doesn't move anymore.

I could do that. Where do you live. I live in Kahm Sakae Saeng, so don't get into Korat everyday. But I'm in town maybe 2-3 times a month. Parts could be a problem....but won't know until we try.  My direct email is dennisgb45@yahoo.com [nofollow] .

I was an electronic technician for many years. My shop mainly repaired VCRs', DVD's and TV's. But I have also repaired quite a few reel to reel units.  Usually the problem is the belts or other drive devices. Of course heads get dirty too. I would be glad to take a look at it for you, in exchange for transferring a few 3" reels to CD, if I can get it going for you.

Actually I would like to keep it, since I got a lot of good tapes, too. It would need some maintenance anyway. But I don't have the funds right now to pay a skilled mechanic to get it working again.

Johnnie F...Yes...that's what I mean. Could you part with it? Even for a short time..

Do you mean one like that? It's resting or rotting in a corner, not moving anymore, though the motor runs. I guess it would need some contacts cleaned and moving parts oiled.
