Hola VPN for most common platforms
« on: September 03, 2014, 09:49:39 PM »
My daughter told me about this, and its FREE!!

hola.org

I have it running on Google chrome and my android phone, both working great (only 24hrs so far)
Get to see all that the BBC has on line as if I was there, also some of my Kiwi sites as if i was in NZ.

Check it out seems to work on a whole lot of platforms, windows, mac, android, iPhone, different browsers etc.

Thanks for that KC.  I think they are still developing app for iPad and they will charge for iOS from the end of this month.  It loaded OK using Chrome on my PC and could get the channels you mentioned.  It did not work for downloading the UK newspaper we are not supposed to read!

Hey 'kiwicanadian' I would be interested to hear which NZ sites you can view via Hola whilst up in Thailand...

I often wish to watch TV1 TV2 or TV3 OnDemand however TVNZ do block standard overseas Internet connections.

My daughter in the UK told me about it and I was using it when I was in Canada the past 2 months.
I'm just back in Korat this week and will see what I can get here. I had it on my Samsung Galaxy s4 mini, most apps worked with it but not the Line chat app, which I was using to talk to the wife here in Korat.
So far I have only used it for the BBC iPlayer and watched the F1 Italian GP while in Canada. Tried it last night here in Korat but was taking too long to load, will try today during the day to see if there is less traffic in the local area.
I did try to get ITV & Sky tv (UK) but need subscription to view on line, even with Hola.
I have not tried to see any NZ tv yet but usually if you need a subscription for a service in your home country you will need that with Hola as well.
I will ask my nice in NZ what they get locally and see if I can get the same here. If at first you dont get the web pages you desire you can hit the icon and get it to search for another VPN server to link through.

Not all the programs worked, could not watch the news might try later though.

Back up again in Thailand and pleased to update that HOLA.ORG has allowed access to both the Daily Mail Online in the UK, plus ALL programs on TVNZ Ondemand in NZ.

I have tried only using only Google Chrome on Windows 8.1 .

There are 2 x Chrome Extensions for HOLA that are required to be installed and run ( best way to explain is to see the attached screenshot! )

Good Luck with your Overseas viewing via Hola...

Thanks Not A Buffalo for that.

I did not have the Hola better Internet Engine just the first one, I have noticed some lag and dropping of signal.

I watch a lot of BBC IPlayer reasonable stuff and a lot of Youtube.
One trick I have found with YouTube is to go through a country like British virgin Islands and they don't have a lot of the ads that one might get from Thailand or Canada.

Using Google Chrome on Win 7

Hi KC,

OK so this visit we have found that HOLA stopped working back to New Zealand ( maybe everywhere else too? )

All was OK 6 weeks ago with Hola when we were last up in Thailand!

As catching up with TV in NZ is very important we went and purchased an anual VPN service - it works good most of the time back to NZ and opens up TV on Demand from all NZ TV companies.

Below if it is of interest to anyone is the VPN Provider we chose to use ( there are many to chose from! )

https://www.goldenfrog.com/

I can highly recommend their 24Hr Online Support - very fast replies and good tech knowledge.

It may have helped if I had added that the Annual payment option is USD $80 \ Year - Very reasonable I thought :)
