HDMI interface to regular TV
« on: July 18, 2016, 09:31:09 PM »
Does anyone know a reputable, capable TV repairman? I have a Toshiba LED TV which I have been using for a year or two and watching movies I have downloaded. I use my laptop and connect with an HDMI cable. Suddenly about 3 or 4 months ago, I started getting this message " Unsupported signal format". To my knowledge, I changed nothing in my laptop nor TV settings.I assumed maybe the HDMI  cable was damaged so I bought a new one and got the same message. Thought maybe it was the HDMI port on my laptop so I tried a different laptop but same message. I just bought one of those Android TV boxes and hooked it up and same message!!! I asked a couple of TV sales guys at the Mall  and as you can no doubt guess, that was a waste of time.  The TV is wall mounted and I can and will take it down, if necessary, for repair but would naturally not want to do it. I am lazy and retired !!

Has anyone else had this problem or knows of a capable, competent repair guy? Any help would be appreciated. Language is not a problem ... wife speaks Thai .. but would be nice if I could explain it to him in English.

Try this

"unsupported signal." In our case it turned out to be the Hz/ Resolution on the computer was set too high. We lowered the resolution on the computer and it started working perfectly. Hope that helps!

Thanks but I do not think that is the problem because I get same message with the Android Tv box which is not connected to the computer but how did you adjust that setting on computer ? I am willing to try that and where and how did you get that tip?

Go to Home Pro on the bypass road.  In the TV department there is a dude named, "Pae."  Talk to him. You can mention my name.  This is one super dude.  He does house calls and has for me on several occasions.  If your TV is hooked up to the internet, it will at times update its software without telling you.  This can cause a problem too.
