The trouble with google adsense on forums is that due to high traffic figures you get business bidding high that are never going to be clicked on, ie just to get their name known, lets say I own a garden center in Nong Khai, I see a Korat forum and decide to target that, in the ad I state garden center Nong Khai, now no one in korat is going to click that but they will get to see it loads of times, so this garden center slowly starts to become famous without even being clicked on, also google only allows you to block 200 domain names from your site, also the content of forums isn't done professionally or with any thought to what google ads you want, so for forums I personally wouldn't bother with google ads, do a page on having a sex change in Thailand and yes, stick google ads on it.

I agree with you that it does not really work on forums. Most of the visitors are members and they get "ad blind". If you have proper content sites on more popular destinations for example then Adsense can make decent money. Ad layout / integration / color scheme is important.

I have been working on a site with questions and answers about various well known medicines and the CTR is 15% and I am seeing an average of close to a dollar a click.

So maybe a good business idea is opening an ad agency that targets the expats in Korat and Isaan and that cooperates with more than one site. One site alone probably has a hard time getting the ads it needs. Or like Koratfart said operate a handful of sites and offer ad packages.

Another good business could be providing local businesses inexpensive websites. Have you ever noticed how few local business actually have a site of their own.

Don't think this is the year to open an ad agency, businesses are really suffering, advertising is one of the first expenses they cut back on or look for cheaper ways.

I don't think Koratfart is ready to go into the web design business just yet :)

The nicest website is of no use, if nobody is getting to it. So think about the "getting to"  :)

The internet isn't as obtrusive like those monster advertisement boards beside the highways which you can't avoid looking at. Give people what they need and you can put some ads on the sides etc.

I don't think anybody is talking about nice designed websites, jb is refering to making google etc look like links that are part of your page, ie more chances of people clicking on them, but as jb said, the only thing is unique content with sort after keywords, aint no other free ways of doing it.

I have never seen any Google Ad referring to anything closer than Pakchong. As long as there aren't any ads even the best content doesn't help.

That is what I clearly mentioned in a previous post.

Anyway, I do have a blog about Korat and even though the ads are about Bangkok and Pattaya, I do still get clicks. As long as you have enough visitors to your site then a certain percentage will still click on the ads even though they might not be about Korat.

Look at it from the viewpoint of the advertiser who wants to make his business known to people who might show up and bring the money back he paid for their click and the impressions by becoming new customers of his. Like there might be some prospective customers for his restaurant in Korat among the visitors of a site about a Korat cat breeder club in France, there will be for sure lots of impressions and clicks that don't pay up.

More effective advertisement is what he needs. "Sponsoring" the virtual community closest to his business might be just that, especially if some "sweets" do come along. ;)

Every effective service on the web which you are controlling - even if it doesn't show any ads - gives you the possibility to get financial support for your activities, even if they don't appear related. And don't forget to pay your taxes and whatever you gotta pay for "business".

Most of us up here are in the lucky position not to have to extort customers because they're already well provided by their pensions they worked for before they came here. Things can be done a little more relaxed and less formal now.  :)

Well it actually depends. If you have a site about Korat for expats and ads show up for special hotel deals in Pattaya or Bangkok then Korat expats are also a good target market to reach. These are generally the type of ads that I see on my Korat blog.

When they send you the first 100-dollar check after five years of desperate waiting - if ever - you don't know how regulations will be then.  ;)

But they need to be clicked by somebody besides you or somebody they do think was not employed by you to click them for Google to pay you.  ;)

You are doing something wrong if you need to wait 5 years for your check. I get mine every month and I can pay all my bills with it and still have some left for a nice vacation with the wife. ;D

You could be living in a 1,400baht a month shack and a good meal out might be your local noodle stall, so that don't mean a lot :)

Well it seems that koratfart aint interested in developing this board, shame really, could have been interesting.

I could be but I am not. ;D

My average monthly Adsense check over the last 12 months has been just over 1600 USD a month. I am planning to add a few more sites in the next few months so I hope this amount will increase.

So we agree post quantity is pretty irrelevant, stickman does one new post every week on his site, yet gets 30 to 40,000 visitors per week.
