How to show politeness on Korat forums
« on: March 29, 2009, 07:40:11 AM »
A good way to express politeness in our host country is to use the "wai" appropriately. I have seen it on Korat-Info used as smilie in posts as well. Maybe our admin can add it to the smilies here, too. If not, it could be used via hotlink. I have sent a PM to KoratCat (the admin of Korat-Info) on this board whether he allows this. He answered: "yes, of course!"

So the link you have to post as long as we don't have it on this board, yet,  would be

http://korat-info.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wai.gif, then stroke over with the right mouse button depressed to highlight it, click the "picture" symbol (left in the row above the smilies) and done. It will show the wai smilie after posting.

Sorry, couldn't find out, how to add a single new smilie.  :-[

Maybe have to look for whole pack that includes the wai. Any suggestions?
Fun is the one thing that money can't buy

Showing more politeness in the thai way is certainly a good way for better integration. Many people from our host community do read english and of course our forums as well. So a little politeness along their customs could do wonders in terms of acceptance.

Are you Thai or something monkey? The wai is totally meaningless to us farangs and most farangs look real dumb as they wai the whore that has just serviced them or inanimate objects at some temple.

No, genuine European with US time, George.

Didn't I write: "A good way to express politeness in our host country is to use the "wai" appropriately"?

If I don't make a monkey of myself and use it correctly and with dignity I'll be highly respected for it. So far my experience. Took me a while to uinderstand how important the wai and its correct use is over here. Far more important than a meaningless handshake. But you really gotta know when and how to use it. If you're not sure it's appropriate to use it, better don't.

Still looking for that emoticon with the bottom of my foot for Georgie.

Too bad for you that the girls you ran around with weren't deemed worthy of a little 'wai' afterward.
