In the last couple of days we had some people abusing the guest posting and play games too much. Therefore this feature has been turned off. It depends upon the further developments whether it will be turned on again.

I can understand that Johnnie is tired of people "provoking" their own reactions or "reacting" to their own posts they made as guests trying to stir up trouble. Why can't you?

That only depends on what you say to yourself. Why not, if it's an interesting dialog. But you can save the multiple registrations with always a new email address and the logging in and out and in again by making just one post like that:

5th Franklyb says: ...

Why don't you query "free forum" on Google and open a few? You could even post on more than one forum then.

See where i see Admins go wrong is how they open a forum, and think everyone is going to get on, before you open the site, there should be a Sign warning people about opening a account, and how it could be detrimental to your life, as i am sure you have seen many members participate in debates and then cry wolf then they feel offended.

Forums area way to meet and exchange views etc, but moving the goal posts for the admins own convenience, in the end makes the forum not a forum but a notice board, because a lot of the good posters move away, as seen on the other board in Korat.

I have as much access to another member's account and PMs as you: None as long as he doesn't tell me his password.

So what is gonna change, if we keep guest posting off? A lot less people will post, and the troublemakers will still post from multiple accounts they registered before or will register in future.

Looks like we're confined to editing and removing posts. But then some people will cry "foul" when their own post got deleted. Can we live with that? It means trusting and supporting the admin.

I am finding some of your posts somewhat hypocritical, in the past i believe you have caused trouble and controversy in the korat community, and have cried wolf, though i suppose its your forum and can do what the heck you like.

Somewhat reminds me of another forum, when things were a little troublesome asked some of its members for support, then got a threat from the agitator and then backed off and stabbed those same members in the back.

Franky, you seem to know so much more of  Korat politics than me but it cant be easy for guys running these sites. How do they really know the good, the bad, and the ugly.? I received a PM telling me that my  both my sons were gay ( have you seen their wives ) and that my missus is half my age which would make me 90....
NINETY .   .All this because this guy thought I was somebody else. How do you possibly deal with guys who are off the map, perpetual liars,  trouble monkeys and a waste of space.  My arguement would be.. IF you do know the score Johnnie  then why on earth do you tolerate it,?

The biggest problem is that there are always two sides of the story.

Fighting is human nature and not necessarily bad,...if certain rules are met, if "the line" isn't crossed frequently or to far.

The line in a forum where words are used is very difficult to define because not only can words have different meanings to different people or in other contexts.

When I feel there is a real problem I either try to talk  the opponents to reason. Sometimes I can see a problem arising from a post. Then I might edit or remove that post. Sometimes this might be unjustified because I didn't fully understand.

"Not tolerating" means taking measures to avoid abuse in future. Isn't that just what turning off the guest posting is? But I agree that this would be of little effect with people just using multiple accounts. And the downsides prevail. Because many people who like to participate in Korat Forums are afraid of getting picked on or even verbally attacked by loonies, if those find out about their identities. So they prefer anonymous posting with changing user names.

If somebody "slips out" and indicates strange behavior he might not necessarily be a bad guy but rather be in more need of the community's assistance instead of repulsion or ridicule. I might be an optimist still hoping the expats in Korat could rather work together and help each other than fight. I'm trying to do my share. Hopefully some others join these efforts.

I'm glad this discussion could get started, and people can show they care instead of only complaining (but secretly enjoying the troublemaking themselves  ).

Posh sure you have heard worse, i have been emailed with stories that people want me to post then i investigate the story and its a load of boll-cks, all in a day of using forums, we all make mistakes and make wrong accusations from time to time.

i have been emailed with stories that people want me to post then i investigate the story and its a load of boll-cks, all in a day of using forums, we all make mistakes and make wrong accusations from time to time.

Sounds like Frankie has confessed to being more than just a common troll, an infiltrator "excusing" his actions by the assertion he would only act on behalf of defaming and belligerent cowards not having the guts to post themselves. 

Since he didn't name any of his patrons yet we'll have to ask him for every post now who he's representing at that moment.

Interesting. The only two people complaining about the new non guest posting policy are franky and posh.  Doesn't it seem odd how quickly posh surfaced under his registered account once you employed the new no guest posting rule? What does that tell you?

Franky boy.  You are a product of genetic waste.  The only reason you exist is because somehow you managed to slip by mother nature's natural selection process when your papa was dogging that farm girl up north and the jizm from papa managed to dribble its way down your mama's backside onto the pig flopping around in the slop. Forget the facts as your guest posts are are the up.  For now that is.

I wonder who'd give me something for them? I could make better guest posts myself.

So, why do I allow guest posts on this forum? Just to get the post count up? Trying to get a high post count without quality or the forum having a purpose has never done any good to a forum.

I have seen forums - unfortunately many of those around here - where the brightest members got banned for making constructive suggestions the administrator or moderators perceived as criticising and weren't willing to discuss. As long as somebody has to expect repression he cannot openly and truly contribute. The best minds usually get lost as members that way. Maybe better not having a membership requirement. Abuse can and will also occur, if there is a membership requirement. Probably even more! Then the troublemakers are challenged to find a way to get around the requirement, register multiple accounts etc. Then you gotta be repressive again. It's spiraling towards more and more repression...and it hits the wrong people, because the declared troublemakers won't give up searching for loopholes. And they're happily showing off that they've outsmarted the system celebrating themselves by even more abuse. A real community doesn't have problems like that, because every member takes care of the other members as much as he can, and if it is only by tolerating their shortcomings to some extent.

As far as 'Guest' posting goes, it's a double edged sword, encourages a more diverse collection of people to post that might not otherwise but it's a magnet for trolling. Many forums won't allow it though as it means constant monitoring.
