Title: Downtime
Post by: Johnnie F. on June 23, 2017, 09:02:21 PM
Ok, it seems like it's gonna work again. Just takes a while still to upload more files and some minor fixing to get it up to date. :)

And it takes a while still for the redirect to the info thread on Korat-Info.com to expire in the caches of the internet and take people who just open the domain (http://koratfart.com/) to here. Not everybody is so clever to type in the direct url:

And now we know what caused it: not any hacking or virus, but the update from SMF2.0.13 to SMF2.0.14, because it happened again at just that point. So before I try that update again, I have to find out about the cause of this problem and its cure. ::)

Though to me about everything seems to be working, there must still be some internal problems, as I keep getting those email alerts, the forum could not connect to the database. But that could also be caused by old data still cached on some servers on the web. Have to wait for those caches to expire!

Does anybody see other problems, known functions to be not working etc. Please report!

 :cheers

The "Thank you for the post" function needs to be reinstalled. In one of the next days. My internet line is still busy with the uploads of parts for the forum and gallery. It's not fast at all! :(

So, the gallery is back with all pics, all uploaded attachments are in place again, the error alerts about database connections have stopped, just the "Thank you" mod still needs to be reinstalled and the normal url needs to propagate again, i. e. the redirect needs to expire in the internet caches! :)

Oh come on! You wouldn't disappoint all those masses who donated to your hands for this forum by not forwarding those enormous funds to be used for webhosting, domainhosting, software, maintenance, administration, legal advice and of course the occasional beer to wash down with any anger over some inappropriate posting.  ;D

i wouldn't mind donating a little,

how much would the best software and good servers come to, divide that by 10 donations it wouldn't come to a bar of soap,so to speak.

who's in, don't let one guy pay for all :wai

Good software, that means v-bulletin, for around USD400. Good webhosting around USD180+ per year, domaing hosting about USD15 a year.

If I couldn't do it for a fraction of that with cheap web hosting and open source software, I would rather keep my hands from running a forum for the expat community. You gotta add the work and the trouble (remember the guy who came here with the cops (http://koratfart.com/expatnews/should-i-bear-a-grudge/msg3926/)) to the costs.

But I am convinced of doing something very beneficial to society. Though some keep mouthing off instead of thinking it openly worth a thank you or contribution. We wouldn't have a thousand unique visitors per day, if not quite lot thought it of value to them.

i have very little money and thought what i could afford for a contribution to the upkeep of the forum would have been welcome, every little helps, attitude, what happened in 2010 before my time, you say (gotta add the work and the trouble (remember the guy who came here with the cops) to the costs) i would call that compensation,so i am sure you will manage without my little few baht.

thank you for doing something very beneficial to society    :cheers

after the system crashed my Avatar disappeared too and cold not find it again on my PC!

"No" problem! All avatars and uploaded files are still in the crashed version of the forum on the server. I can simply download them, if you're badly in need of them. Sorting them out is another problem. There are only about 3,400 and with names like that

3735_3de381134c81e82ee22e347350b790ea738939c1

and they're encrypted, too! ;)
