Donations to this forum

Bravo JF, very eloquently put...and enough to make me want to donate to running costs so that advertising remains un-needed (details required please).

If I wanted to be bombarded by advertising whilst reading gossip, I'd join Facebook (on second thoughts, nothing would make me want to join Facebook! ::))

I've been running forums in Korat for six years now. The forums grew and more people felt so attached to them that they wanted to share some of the responsibility beyond just contributing articles. Some of my friends provided me with things like bread they baked etc. The easiest way of contributing became the financial donation. Some gave cash to me when they met me or visited me. After long discussions we agreed on a system: I opened a PayPal account where they could transfer money to. That works best. Others still ask me to open a Thai bank account they can transfer to, because they don't have a PayPal account themselves. The last I don't find so good, because then it is difficult for me to tell, who has donated. So until now it is the PayPal account. That comes with a handy button I can post on the forum when I need to encourage donations again. Got one for this forum, too:

On the other forum we agreed that I make a post that gets updated with the total amount of donations to the forum and a list of the contributors, the latter not telling how much each member had donated. If somebody donates but doesn't want to show up on that list, he can send me a PM.

As to the expenses I spend the donated money for what I think good for the forum, not developing any written projections, filing any written reports, keeping any bills or employing a secretary for the bookkeeping. As simple as that! Of course there are some members in closer contact with me who do advise when there are decisions to make.
Fun is the one thing that money can't buy

Sorry to sound silly but in the interests of transparency, as I have no idea at all...............but could you tell us which "other" forums you are talking about that are under your discretion?

If it is a unconducive question then no worries. Just also sounds slightly abstract and mysterious.

Also, I'd like to know of these other forums so I might perhaps have a look at them as this one is good.  :salute

http://www.korat-info.com as the oldest still running and best established of all Korat forums is another. I founded that six years ago, when I was banned from the 2-months old koratfarang.com for a still unknown reason. No problem, I can do myself, I said. And I did actually learn a lot over the years. Originally Korat-Info was set up in three languages: German, English and Dutch. The German part grew fastest, so I changed the board language to German. If you register there, just select English as your board language. BTW our new member Eric (goldmonkey) has asked an interesting question there today:

Hi members,
I`m Quite new here .My name is eric ,live at the moment in germany and will be moving shortly to korat.next week we are coming over for three months and have started to build .
I have read alot of the forum both english and german.there are some very interesting themes and advice.but up to now I have not found anything on here about fish ponds.Well to get to the point ,we had a fish pond dug out and used the earth as part of the filling for the foundation m,the hole soon filled with water because fo a good underground stream.in rainy season its about 2.5 meters deep dry season about 1.5mtrs.the water is a milky color I think its cause of the clay that the water passed through .anyway we introduced 200 tilapia fry two months ago.up till now only one floater(dead one) so I guess they are ok, frogs and tadpoles also seem to be thriving.
OK here`s my question.Has anyone ever heard about putting cow dung into the water to clear it??? it sounds a bit daft to me but my stepdaughter has put a load in and says it will clear it.that was 2 days ago and up to now no floaters.
Well thats it for now,I would love to hear what you members think or maybe those living over there could ask a few farmers or something .I will keep you guys posted if it works or not .bye for now,
 Eric

Maybe you got an answer for him, cause I don't know.
